So guys I was told by my colleague about this aakash tablet which is around 1200rs. I googled about it a bit and found the general consensus that ubslate/aakash2 is much better than aakash. So I'm just looking for what kinda problems there are in the ubislate tablet.

My requirements from it are:

1. I don't have an android phone. Personally I believe that putting 15-20k in a mobile is a bit too much expensive as they loose their resale value like crazy. But at the same time I want an android phone. Ubislate solves this issue very well as it is cheap (3000rs) and has an android platform so I'd finally be able to have the android experience.

2. I like to read novels, but the new, good stuff isn't easily available and when it is, it's costly. So I do plan to do a fair bit of reading on this thing.

3. I'm a BIG movie buff. All my hard drive space is filled up by movies/tv series. I also plan to do a good bit of movie watching on it.

4. Since I'm buying this tablet for the android experience, I plan on running a good bit of games/applications on it. I hope multitasking isn't too bad on it.

These are the reasons that I'm interested in buying the tab.

Going by my needs do you recommend it to me?

Does it hangs up frequently? How's the battery backup while watching movies? How long can it run while reading ebooks?

How does it get charged? I mean is it like a laptop that when using hook it to a power outlet and it gets charged while being used or do we have to take the battery out and charge it like in case of digicams?

Will I be able to access maps on it like the way my friends do it on their android phones?

What about internet usage charges? Will I have to be in contact to a wifi terminal to access internet or can I put in a sim and use the net off that like the way I do in my nokia 5130?

Anything else that you might want me to know?

It'll get charged like any other cellphone. Maps , yes if it has GPS. The Ubislate has a GSM radio i believe so you should be able to put in a SIM else there is WiFi of course.

Just remember that you get what you pay for. This is especially true for Android devices.

Does this have android market?

No Android Market for UbiSlate. GetJar is the marketplace for this device. However, UbiSlate-7 have Android Market support.

Google Android Market: Aakash-1 has too little processing power and no SIM card, therefore no access to Google's Android Market. It will have to suffice with GetJar Marketplace. UbiSlate-7 does have access to Google's Android Market.

The perfect tablet for your price range is the zync pad z909. although they all belong to the chinese droid family but worth the money when it comes low end tabs.
You can also check with pristine note in the dealers section as he is a reliable one.

^ It does not have not have GSM capabilities.

@ OP

I don't think anybody has used the Ubislate 7 yet. However, once it starts shipping in mid Jan, you should get a couple of good reviews on the tab and then take a decision. As per the specs, it looks better than most Android phones in the <10k segment.
