Now, this is one interesting bit of news here.
While details are hazy I think the story goes like this: For Rainbow Six Vegas 2, some users were complaining about a broken security system that was preventing even some genuine buyers from playing the game.

Consequently, Ubisoft decided to release a NO CD fix that will allow users to play the game. But Instead of coding the fix themselves, they simply picked the fix provided by Scene group RELOADED and released it to their users.

Pretty gay, I would say. And funny too.

when it comes to pc games Ubisoft is pretty lame ... Splinter Cell Chaos theory had lotsa bugs reported in their own forums ; Far Cry had awesome patch 1.4 which allowed AI to wall-hack (see through walls) ... so its not very surprising for Ubisoft to pawn themselves.

But I see that as a smart decision. Why spend any time(=money) developing something that has been developed by reverse engineering their own executable. If the pirates turned out to be helpful for them for once, why not seize the opportunity ? (Besides, technically a no-cd crack is not exactly illegal I guess as long as it is used to run legally owned installations.)
