ubuntu 8.10 - installation problem

hey friends:hap2: hyeah:

it' s my first experience with linux.

i burned the iso on cd, booted the form the cd , checked the disk for errors from the ubuntu screen, it came fine.

then choose to install ubuntu, there is a black screen in from of me with cursor blinking on it from last 45 minutes, can any one tell me what's happening, what's wron n how to do it correctly?

if possible plz pm me ur no. so as to get some live assistance.

Are you able to run in live CD mode? Did you try safe mode?

Lol..as a rule, run the live cd first and then proceed to install..

once you have booted via live cd and you have the desktop loaded you will see install icon on desktop. try installing from there.

the 8.10 release notes mentions a possibility that you'll need to unmount the hard drive to proceed with installation but i guess OP solved the install issue
