1.Yes i logged in desktop and then i press ctrl+alt+f1 to get the terminal screen, but its in full screen mode and i cannot figure out how to exit the terminal itself or atleast how use it in non-full screen mode
2.ASUS n80vn-x1:Intel c2d t5800 2.0ghz,4gb ddr2 800 ram,nvidia 9650mgt.
3.In linux settings the sound device is shown as Intel Hd audio but still it doesnt play any audio, can i get the realtek drivers for the same ?

1) CTRL+ALT+F7 will get back to your current running X Session.(read X is the Display used in *nix systems be it mac,bsd or Linux)

X.Org Wiki - Home

2)File System Corrupted.

3)Realtek HDA codec are supported very much in GNU/Linux.

My Humble Suggestion- if you understand partition ,please install Ubuntu or any distro to your harddisk partition.

That is better.

Good Luck.

1. CTRL + ALT + F7 to escape .

2. Tried disbling acpi, nolapic and apic .. To disable it press F6 and enter at the last

Code:
 acpi=off nolapic noapic

3. Try disabling Pulseaudio..

Edit :
Realtek HDA codec are supported very much in GNU/Linux.

Afaik my HD audio Intel Azilla works without any error :)

Ubuntu really needs to fix the ACPI/APCI issues. The last Ubuntu release that worked without those problems for me was 7.04. Distros based on Ubuntu like Linux Mint work flawlessly though

I am running Ubuntu with alsa-1.0.19 and 8.10 Intrepid is working fine.I have shared the infos in pulseaudio thread.

ACPI/APCI issues

which board ,etc etc depends.but I am NOT on Ubuntu kernel;I am on custom compiled 2.6.28-7 hoped for some fix for Hda-Intel issue.

Try booting with acpi=force option.
