I had ordered for the ubuntu free cds about 30 cds in total.
Today the postman came with those cds and asked for 440 rupees if i want the package. I was shocked as I thought it was free. I didnt take it and told him i will come afterwards and take it. Have u guys here faced this? I find it rather strange that I have to pay extra for free stuff

those must be customs charges they have slapped on.

Most of the times when there is large package even if its not of commercial value customs tend to slap some charges on it.( if there is no invoice )

Happened with me earlier.

All bull crap! I ordered 17 ubuntu cd sets... they didnt ask anything! Furthermore, i've also recieved cds and stuff from some Scriptures site and a NATO site too (though i'm not Christian, nor do i like the NATO), and they were delivered to me FREE.

DONT PAY A SINGLE DIME.
If they insist, tell them to go to hell.

It is customs. When you order such a large number, you are forced to pay customs. And your screaming will do no good. If postage were not free, it would never haved reached here - there is no such thing as international VPP.

i read same abt it in digit forum...there many ppl ordered ard 100 cds..and many of them didnt paid a penny.........check there...since i read that post ard a yr bak so i cant xactly recall the number of cds....do search there

We are at the Belgaum LUG had ordered a pretty large amount of Ubuntu CD's,somewhere around 500 in number. We had to pay for the customs as many here have already posted.

You could ask for the customs details documents in case you want to verify.

i ordered 1 CD from them and they send me five set of installation and live CD ..... i kept one and distributed other .....

installation comes in just 1 CD ..... actaully many of the application u have to install thru' net ..... the application manager is gr8 and u need to just chk the things u want it will automatically download it and install it for u :)

What about mp3 support? I'm really enjoying my Suse 9.1 desktop edition..as it happens to be the best distro which is compatible with most windows file types..

Ubuntu doesnt seem to support mp3,wma off the rack..though support can be added later..also what about onboard sound, will it support 5.1 channel..?Also does it support hyper threading?

Actually i'm asking all this because i think it may not be a good alternative to Suse afterall, I think i'll install it just for the heck of it and then maybe go back to my Suse.. ;)
