Sevilla are the UEFA Cup Champs.......... after routing Middlesbrough 0-4 and future England coach Steve McClaren's UEFA Cup Dream.......:hap5:
Final Score:

At EINDHOVEN,Netherlands Sevilla made its first European trophy a memorable one Wednesday, after a 4-0 rout of Middlesbrough and future England coach Steve McClaren in the UEFA Cup final....

Both Middlesbrough and Sevilla were in a totally uncharted territory as neither of them had ever before reached a final in UEFA club competition......But Middlesbrough's present & future England coach Steve McClaren was sure tat his team could win the finals......This was McClaren's final game in charge as Middlesbrough's Manager before he takes over as England manager after the FIFA World Cup......

Middlesbrough persisted with goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer despite his recent broken cheekbone & he sported a plastic facemask during the match.....
Meanwhile Sevilla coach Juande Ramos made just one change from the side that beat Schalke in the semi-final second leg..... It was exist for Aitor Ocio as centre-back Javi Navarro returned from suspension .....

Match Warm-Up & Opening Ceremony:
Both sides come out to a roaring ovation from the two sets of fans at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven & this match was a special night for both clubs, and their supporters......& they did everything to reach noise level to the peak....... the stadium was split into a sea of red and white with both sets of players out on the pitch now warming up.....With 15 minutes to go until kick-off, the stadium is almost full. Both club's anthems are played to take the atmosphere in the ground to a new level........ Former PSV and Nottingham Forest keeper Hans van Breukelen(Uefa Cup ambassador) brings the Uefa Cup out on to the pitch and parades it around the ground.... Hundreds of children who had brought orange and white balloons release them into the sky to the sound of cannon fire and later the show of acrobats tumbling over the pitch starts.....Meanwhile the Sevilla fans unveiled three huge banners proclaiming "Somos Grandes" but the Boro fans were not intimidated by them and they started passing a massive 'Boro' flag around their end of the ground........As there ground is all into noise and colour the players from both teams come onto the field accompanied by local schoolchildren.......After tat coaches from both teams enter the field but its Steve McClaren Boro's Coach who gets all the attention from the mass of photographers who were waiting for him.....while Sevilla coach Juan de la Cruz Ramos is ignored

Match KickOff

Its Sevilla who get the game under way......& its staight away action as Sevilla's right-back Alves Daniel has the game's first shot from 20 yards zooming past the Middlesbrough post......Quickly Middlesbrough win a free-kick just 25 yards from goal after Mark Vidukawas bopught down byJavi Navarro......Fabio Rochemback took the freekick and his fierce goalbound drive had to be quickly pushed away by keeper Andres Palop......All this action didnot reduce the deafening noise inside the ground...... Boros are sang their hearts out while Sevilla are whistled or cheered, depending on whether they were in possession or not.......Match was full of dangers for Boro.....a quick danger emerged in the form of Sevilla's David as he escaped down the left but a Chris Riggott slide results in a corner.... But Chris Riggott is again the hero for Boro as he and Mark Schwarzer combine to force Luis Fabiano's corner effort out for another corner which also comes to nothing......As Sevilla won corners, Boro also won their first corner of the game but Stewart Downing's corner-kick was easily headed clear by Sevilla's Pep Marti.....As the match continues ,Stewart Downing and a Sevilla defender appeared to clash briefly off the ball but tat didnot catch the eye of officials and the match proceded further .....Meanwhile McClaren was waving his players forward so tat he could get atleast one in Sevilla half ...& All his antics were been watched by Sven-Goran Eriksson,England's Coach as he analysed his successor..... As the Match progressed, excited Sevilla fans shouted "handball" as Javier Saviola's shot from the edge of the area hit Gareth Southgate's hand inside the area but referee correctly called for the play to continue......soon Gareth Southgate tried to get James Morrison away on the right but the pass was overhit and out for a goal-kick.Sevilla's surely had a gameplan in mind as they were attacking & playing the ball short to Saviola with Luis Fabiano spinning off him but Boro are nowhere setting up high balls up to their Australian Striker Mark Viduka...... Only 27 Minutes into the games & its an early disaster for Boro as Luis Fabiano got ahead of Chris Riggott to head Daniel Alves' right-wing cross into the far corner of the net and put Sevilla ahead......
 GOAL:clap:
Score:Middlesbrough 0-1 Sevilla

Sevilla are at the moment and its again Sevilla on the attack as Adriano Correia advances into the Boro area before unleashing a fierce shot from 20 yards which flies just over......which again catched the nerves of Boro Fans who became quiet after the first goal......On the otherhand Sevilla fans are still up on their feet after their goal...... waving scarves, banners, flags and anything they can get their hands on....this allowed the Spaniards to march forwards.....Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink showed signs of frustration as Sevilla are again allowed to build from the back & it seemed tat Boro were inviting them to come......After the first setback Boro tried to get into the game with shots & passes by Stewart Downing & Fabio Rochemback only to be stopped by the Sevilla Defence......As the game progressed Mclaren was nowhere to be seen ......Tensions & tackles started to grow as George Boateng put in a crunching tackle on Pep Marti in the centre circle but referee Herbert Fandel considered that a free-kick is sufficient punishment not a booking..... It was a frustrating night so far for the Dutchman Hasselbaink & Viduka ...while one is not able to stop the ball latter cant get the ball.....Pep Marti was again in action as he floated a right-wing free-kick into the Middlesbrough area but Julien Escude' header put it wide to create a corner kick....Corner Kick taken was misinterouted by Mark Viduka but luckily the ball fell to safety......Another right-wing free-kick by Pep Marti & this time it was much closer to the goalline and Fabio Rochemback put it wide out for another corner.......Boro soon got action in the other half as a left-wing corner by Stewart Downing, was headed by James Morrison on the edge of the area but only to be looped over the bar.....Seeing this the Boro fans are trying to encourage their team.....Finally a disappointing first half ends with Boro trailing to Luis Fabiano's goal and needed to up their game to turn things round in the second half ,however they needed tat their manager to act now to reverse the flow of this game........

HALF-TIME:Middlesbrough 0-1 Sevilla
The second half gets under way.........and its substitution for both teams.....as Javier Saviola made way for Sevilla's replacement former Tottenham striker Fredi Kanoute & Massimo Maccarone (he scored winners in quater & semis for Boro) comes for James Morrison & English side switch to a 4-3-3 formation........But tat didnot hinder Sevilla as a flowing break from Sevilla almost sees them double their lead..... Pep Marti races half the length of the field before feeding the ball to Adriano Correia but his curling shot from just outside the area is just far away from the far post......But soon the ball goes the other side....as Jesus Navas outpaces Gareth Southgate before firing just wide....Chris Riggott heads to create great chance for Boro to level but Mark Viduka his half-volley is well blocked by keeper Andres Palop....As the game progresses the game's first yellow card came out & its awarded to defender Daniel Alves for a foul on Stewart Downing .....Game continues with chances begin created on both sides.....& Massimo Maccarone came close to making another impact on this competition as his ball fired from the right wing had to be pushed over the bar by Andres Palop .Boro had dominated the opening stages of the second half and looking for leveling but Sevilla found time to launch an attack with Jesus Navas speeding down the right but his cross is rapidly cleared by Gareth Southgate...but soon the ball is bobbing around the Sevilla area once again but George Boateng's shot was blocked by the falling Javi Navarro. Middlesbrough were set for an all-out attack with Yakubu warming up......Boro got a glimpse of their equaliser as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's expertly-floated free-kick form foul on Rochemback ,goes agonisingly just over the bar.....Soon Boro lost the spark they had immediately after the interval ......Substitution for Boro as Yakubucomes in for Queudrue & it made 4 Boro striker on the pitch.... Meanwhile Fredi Kanoute squandered a chance for Sevilla as his shot drifted harmlessly into his side's fans behind the Boro's goal.....Sevilla make their second change with goalscorer Luis Fabiano being replaced by hard-working midfielder Renato....Sevilla switch their formation to leave Fredi Kanoute as their lone striker........masked Mark Schwarzer dived to turn away a goalbound shot from full-back Daniel Alves.....Only 15 minutes left now for Boro to rescue their European dream........and there r chances goes begging as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink finds Mark Viduka 20 yards out but his low shot skids past the far post.......But soon Middlesbrough call for a penalty following Javi Navarro's challenge on Viduka inside the box but referee Fandel turned the appeals down. leaving Steve McClaren in disbelief........Soon Boro were forced back by Sevilla as they pass the ball around just inside the Sevilla half before the only remaining defender Chris Riggott hoisted it out of play....Jesus Navas advanced into the right-hand side of the area and squared for Fredi Kanoute...but his shot is blocked by Mark Schwarzer only to find former West Brom player Enzo Maresca waiting to to sweep home & Sevilla double their lead.....
 GOAL:clap:
Score:Middlesbrough 0-2Sevilla

Its almost all over for Boro with just over 10 Minutes left in the game.....& this lead to some Boro fans leaving the ground early.....As the game progressed Sevilla defender Julien Escude collected his side's second yellow card & Sevilla gave the ball away .....But Pep Marti's free-kick from 25 yards was high, wide and horrible only to land up in the crowd.....Boro also got their share of booking as first booking for Boro came as Fabio Rochemback is booked for a foul on Fredi Kanoute......
Its over for Boro as Enzo Maresca drilled in his second goal with a low shot from the edge of the area after Jesus Navas' right-wing cross is headed out of the box.....going out of emotions Maresca removed his shirt as part of the extravagant goal celebrations but was duly shown a yellow card.
 GOAL:clap:
Score:Middlesbrough 0-3 Sevilla
As Sevilla fans rejoiced ,Ramos made a substitution & Antonio Puerta replaced Adriano Correia ......also Steve McClaren replaced Mark Vidukaand brought in Lee Cattermole to get a taste of defeat in a European final.......Boro have recovered from 3-0 down before this season but they had run out of time and ideas on this occasion...........With less than five minutes to go the Sevilla fans had begun their celebrations....Former West Brom midfielder Enzo Maresca again went for the kill ,but his shot destined for a hat-trick was saved by Mark Schwarzer but only for Fredi Kanoute to slam it into the back of the net.......
 GOAL:clap:
Score:Middlesbrough 0-4 Sevilla

Soon the final whitsle is blown...& Sevilla are UEFA Cup champions! ......winning the first major European trophy in their history.......&.......McClaren stood alone waiting for his disconslate players to trudge towards him before finally going to join them in the centre-circle.McClaren's Middlesbrough career came to an end with disappointment, but he will surely concede that his players were beaten by the better side on the night.

Great post there knoughtyd.

I guess it was a miracle too many for Boro.

After sensational last minute victories over Basel and Steaua Bucharest in the quarters and semis, they just ran out of steam I guess.

Sevilla were far too powerful, especially their young midfielder Jesus Navas and Former West Brom Midfielder Maresca.

Ex-Spurs player Fredi Kanoute got a goal too...one of my fav. players :D.
