What are the ULV laptops. How it is different from the normal laptops. I heard Acer Timeline series are ULV laptops. Lenovo U series also have one ULV laptop?:ohyeah:

It's not ULV but CULV (Consumer Ultra low voltage) which has a smaller die size and sips less power than a regular processor. For example, the TDPs of a mobile C2D varies from 25W to 35W, a CULV processor dissipates no more than 10W while an Atom uses only about 3W.

In terms of raw power: C2D>CULV>Atom

Battery life: Atom>CULV>C2D

Most CULV processors (like the SU9xxx and Celeron) are based on the same C2D architecture but run at slower clock speeds to minimise power output. In addition, they are usually soldered to the mobo to reduce the footprint so you wont be able to upgrade the processor without changing the mobo.

Dell, MSI, Acer, Lenovo etc have various CULV laptops.

I read in various reviews that the ULV chip used in the Acer Timeline series is just marginally better in performance when compared to single core Atom chips. Keep this is mind if you are going to buy a laptop from the Timeline series or a laptop from any other company based on a similar processor.

Acer Aspire Timeline 4810T being used by a friend is truly an amazing machine- slim-light- Just 2k and very well configured, It carries out all the laptop tasks very well and shows DVD,s very well. a great deal for 34k he got it for.

Are ULV laptops costlier than non-ULV laptops?
