UMG1831 vs E1750

My friend needs a 3G modem for BSNL 3G.

So now the decision is between the Huawei UMG1831 and the Huawei E1750. Both from ebay.

Among the powersellers the E1750 costs Rs.2579 and the UMG 1381 costs Rs.2999

Is the UMG1831 good? Have been seeing ppl reporting so many issues with this model. So which one to choose. Quite confused about this.

Please come up with quick suggestions as the flat ebay coupon Rs.500 above Rs.2500 expires today. TIA :)

Or is there any other modems that are cheap and have an antenna slot? He gets only 2 bars signal in his iphone 3GS. So will the modem give him a signal boost or will it be poorer than a phone?

DarkAngel, Buy the 1831. I am using this. Its very stable getting full signal. Just dont upgrade to the latest firmware 28mbps firmware. This firmware causes a lot of problems.
The older firmware is great. No problems at all.

He might need to upgrade the firmware after getting the modem not to the crappy 28mbps one but 1 version before that and also update mobile partner. Once its done this modem will work well.
For 2.5k its the best modem. Buy it :)
 
not a bad choice darky i am also using the same modem. It does disconnect after about 1.5 hours, but reconnects almost immediately it seems the problem of BSNL network rather than modem. :)
 
That's nice to hear bro, tell your friend to upgrade the firmware and also the Mobile Partner as the device will come with a pretty old firmware, mobile partner which wont work under Windows 64 Bit :-) and don't upgrade to the latest one :-)

Inputs from someone who has used it with MTNL will be great.

where do we get a discount coupon of flat Rs. 500 off? I'd also like to buy 1.
btw im also getting an airtel branded 3g modem (E1550). Can it be unlocked? I know the Idea one can(which is the same model) but could not find any information regarding the airtel one.
 
^ are you comfortable with the seller's feedback , i mean sure the deal is good ! , but will he replace the Modem, if there is some problem.

Yeah, read his feedback. All are happy plus we have buyer protection from ebay. If he doesn't send the genuine product with bill & warranty, we can always return it back and have full refund. :)

It wont be fully utilised for mtnl.
Speeds hardly reach 3mbps.
If you are planning it to use it for reliance or other private operators then it will be a good choice since these are 21mbps operational right now.
I got full speeds on my nokia c5 upto 1.218MB/sec on reliance.
And max of 336KB/sec on mtnl in mumbai.
But for not much price difference i guess the 1831 is a clear winner.
