Unable to run CS 1.6 on Windows 64 bit Help!!

wow who would have thought a small game like cs 1.6 would be so hard to install.... i'm ready to pull my hair out now.

So my problem is i go to start up CS and the computer sortof crashes, I see the soldiers on the main menu and I can see my mouse and even hear my mouse going over the menu options but i cant SEE the menu options, I used to have counter strike on this computer, I'm not sure what happened its almost like the resolution was changed in the game and now its stuck on a resolution my computer cant deal with, the soldier guys on the main screen are kindof blown up so i figured it was stuck on a lower resolution , so i tried downing my computers resolution on all settings to try and work with the game but still nothing, I already tried making the File executer to HL.exe , as well as downloading a registry file someone said would force my game to open in 800x600, none of this worked.. Ive installed it again and again, deleting every file thereafter to erase traces of game settings , still nothing. please help i really want to get this game running!:hail:
 
yup as Hex said, run in XP compatibility mode or download different version of the game. Somebody confirm if cs 1.6 runs on Win 64 bit.
 
Which Win 64? There is XP 64 bit, Vista 64 bit and of course 7 64 bit. I am running it fine on Win 7 64 bit. I am talking about the the Steam version though.
 
Steam version runs fine on my win 7 64 bit

Better put the retail key and activate game on steam and get the version which is up to date. (in case yours is a retail disc)
