The campaign can be played in co-op? I am not really sure of this. Or are you guys referring to the regular matches?

Yes the campaign can be played with co-op.But it does not start like normal.Here you can select your desired map and proceed.
 
So if the entire campaign can be played in co-op, how does the story progression work? What about the character selection?
 
I saw one of the co-op videos and it showed 3 players; Nate, Elena and Tenzin in the Tibet level.

This is a quote from Wikipedia:

The co-op multiplayer allows a maximum of three players to take the roles of Drake and two other "hero" companions and features missions involving gunfights, platforming, and teamwork-based objectives. Players can also assist their comrades if they become critically injured or if they are grabbed by an enemy

So it's not essentially the main campaign, but could be a bunch of separate mission, designed specifically for co-op.
 
Similar to UC3. I'm usually free from 8 till 11 in the evenings. If anybody is interested in UC2 let me know.

What you stated is called "CO-OP ARENA".it supports max three players.It is just to survive certain rounds.

But on normal co-op you can play the campaign levels.Like i said its just that you dont follow the story from the start(Cutscenes are there too).You can select a map and play.
Trust me both the co-ops are kickass.
It really needs team work.Here even you get points for killing enemies which increases your rank.

In normal co-op(i played only once for a short time) i am not sure.

But in all other modes you can select your character.even the dlcs adds cool new characters too.You even have cole, some killzone skins and many others.
As for multiple drakes yes if all players choose drake then there will be multiple drake.:D
But in multiplayer there are two teams.Only "HEROES" team can select drake and other heroic characters."VILLAIN" team will get only the enemy skins.
