I was thinking about getting a universal remote. there is a lot of mess with so many remotes already which is why i was considering this.

devices are
TV
Set Top Box
Logitech z680 speaker pod
Playstation 3 (Not sure if the remote would work with this)
AC (Not sure if the remote would work with this)

I wanted to know which is a good one to get. I got a quote for Rs.3400/- for Logitech Harmony 525. is that a good remote & is the price proper. Also will this remote support the PS3 & the AC.
are the logitech remotes long lasting.
comments from current users & their setups would be very helpfull.

what other options do i have? would prefer to get it locally.

ok i figured out about the ps3. ps3 has bluetooth & doesnt have IR. i will need an IR dongle for controlling the ps3 via harmony.

well the ps3 doesn't use infra red so the harmony remote is useless.
well harmony remotes are good but somehow i just dont like the complex buttons in them, the philips remotes are much more easier with big buttons and the placement of buttons are more of a standard type so its less confusing the same goes to the sony remotes they are simple.
i have seen people who have the harmony 885 ,regret buying them. not that its bad but it costs a lot and frankly for daily use u are bound to drop it or spill something no matter how careful u try to be.
so i would go for the philips remotes ,much cheaper and i feel they are less confusing Philips - 5000 series - Accessories - Remote controls the 500o series of remotes from philips SRU5150 costs MRP2300 and control a total of 5 devices

u can also go in for these sony remotes via KMD price will be bit cheaper then philips remotes in india Amazon.com: Sony RM-VL600 8-Device Universal Learning Remote: Electronics
or this one Amazon.com: Sony RMVL610N Remote Commander with 3 Color Back Plates - Neutral Pack (Black): Electronics

BTW logitech 885 costs 6k in reliance digital.

you mean a USB IR dongle right ?

I do not have much idea about universal remotes, I had seen one at a friends place used for his HT setup ..it was a Logitech model but it wasnt the one you've mentioned ..and if i can recollect my fiend had told me it costed something like 12k ,most probably it was the 885 model.

I used to spend a lot of time at his place ,watching movies/listening to music etc and it did take some time for me to get used to it .. but overall the remote was like really sturdy and a amazing device to control the TV/Receiver and his DVD player.

(there was a Xbox 360 and a AC in the room too ,but i am not sure if he used the remote to control them :) ,definitely not the AC )

found some reviews for the 525 model. check it out, might be helpful.

well thats really stretching my budget a lot. its too costly & also i dont see much difference apart from the screen & the shape of 885 also seems little weird.

the philips 1 u said seems decent but i liked the key setup etc of the 525 & also it looks better so leaning more towards logitech. so what do you say should i go for it.

also whats the price of the 525 in reliance / croma etc? will it be cheaper than the 3400 quote i got?

well ur 525 quote is about the lowest i know,885 is too costly for a remote.
but the keys of philips are much easier i.e keys are bigger and its also cheaper to buy,the thing about these complex logitech remotes is that for some common commands u still have to look at the remote, while the philips has big buttons and dedicated buttons for choosing devices,so its rarely that u look at the remote.anyway the philips is what i prefer.

Superczar has the harmony and hed vouch for it a million times over, so much so that ill probably get one for myself as and when i can,

apparently controls everything which has a IR and you can program it as well for 1 key mapping

as in press one key and your ht system is switched on, tv is switched to av in, speakers are switched on or off etc

logitech harmony are the best.

Ezone keeps logitech / phillips / some other chinese brands. Logitech were priced about 3.5 k in surat, here. I dont recall the number exactly.

well some people are suggesting the chinese 1's but i have heard some compaints about them from friends. but whoever is using harmony is giving me very positive reviews & also the amazon user reviews are quite positive.

i ordered the harmony 525 @ 3350.
