So I have managed to unlock two cores on the AMD Phenom 2-X2-555 BE BE to AMD Phenom 2-X4-555 BE, using my Gigabyte 785GMT-USB3 motherboard. I read on one of the tutorials that it is better to run the Torture test (Prime) for 24 hours to make sure that the system is stable.

My question is what tests should be completed and what should be the ideal time frames for these?,

Also is there any way to monitor the core temperatures?

Thanks in advance

Run Prime95 v25.11

A 12 hour run overnight should be good enough. This app will stress all the cores at the same time

Once you unlock, the temp sensor will be screwed up. You wont get the reading on coretemp.

So, use Everest app and check for CPU temperature value

Your core temp should be 4-5 C less than CPU temp value

That is how i used to check

Just to give you an idea on the temps i get

X2 mode - 4 Ghz O.C

25C idle

42C full load with prime

X4 mode - 3.2 Ghz O.C

25C idle

45C full load with prime

Thank you @Spectre, These are the temperatures that I am getting, is it normal?

Motherboard 42 °C (108 °F)

CPU 41 °C (106 °F)

CPU #1 / Core #1 0 °C (32 °F)

CPU #1 / Core #2 0 °C (32 °F)

CPU #1 / Core #3 0 °C (32 °F)

CPU #1 / Core #4 0 °C (32 °F)

Aux 38 °C (100 °F)

ofcourse your core temps will be effed ip. but is that CPU temp when idle or full load?

Post your complete rig info, cooler, cabby etc

temps depend on a lot of factors

your core temps could be 41 - 5 ~ 36C (approx value)

the temps u mentioned at idle values, cpu will run @ 4x multiplier, if u enabled CIE

Stress with Prime95, open everest app during the same time, note the CPU temp

Thank you @spectre, My system config is as follows

AMD Phenom 2-X2-555 BE

Gigabyte 785GMT-USB3

OCZ 2GB DDR3 1333Mhz

Cooler master Eline 310

FSp saga 2 400w

APC450 UPS

Also i am getting these temperatures with just Firefox running

Motherboard 44 °C (111 °F)

CPU 39 °C (102 °F)

The temps also depend on the circulation in your cabinet and other components (gfx cards, no. of HDDs, SMPS load etc) The temps seem ok nothing wrong. de.das.dude's meant to get better SMPS if you are going for gfx otherwise it shouldnt be a problem.

Thank you, Zopeon, should I be running the comp with two cores till the time I get an aftermarket cooler? Also please tell me which is a good aftermarket cooler.

Unlocking is a good thing.

But you should get the best out it, based on your requirements

For gaming (most of them), i would use it in X2 mode running @ 4Ghz, the extra clocks will help a lot

For other CPU intensive tasks etc, unlock to X4 and push the clocks to a safe limit

In mine, the quad is not stable at anything over 3.6 Ghz, whereas dual goes till around 4.2
