Unlocking an Xperia X10i

One of my cousins gifted me his x10 but unfortunately it is network locked,I searched on the net for an unlocking tutorial and everywhere I see that you have to pay for unlocking,which I dont want to.As it is an android phone is it possible to edit the efs partion through adb after rooting the phone???

Or is there any other way which does not require any money......

search in ebay for unlock code.

one of my relatives left at&t samsung phone and no sim card worked apart from at&t so i got unlock code from seller in ebay for $1.

i got code and unlocked it within 10 mins of paying.
