Unusual problem after upgrading

CA50

Level E
Hi everybody, few days back i upgraded my processor, previously i had a celeron D @2.66 GHz on a xfx nforce 630i mobo and dual boot of windows xp and 7 on two separate HDD. Now i upgraded my proccy to E6550. After installing the proccy i booted my system, everything went well and i safely booted into windows XP. Xp detected the new proccy and started installing drivers, after completing the installation, it asked me to reboot my pc which i did.
Now while restarting the system, i heard a click sound from my hdd (80 gb one which had win xp), the sound is similar to that one which is heard when a hdd is powered on. As a result my system hanged, so i pressed the reset button Now after this whenever i start my pc, xp restats before reaching the boot screen. No BSOD is shown. Can you guys give any solution??

But my pc works fine with the new system under windows 7. So proccy is not the issue.

Please help, i am not at all interested in reinstalling xp:@

Thanks for your time.

boot XP in safe mode & try system restore, it may solve your problem.

Btw " xp restats before reaching the boot screen", I assume you mean to say before it reaches welcome screen

^^^ no mate xp restarts before showing the boot screen. And this thing takes place when i started in safe mode and also when i tried last know configuration when worked safely.

^^ a clean install is always better but if your XP was working fine(no problems at all, I mean slow pc performance, viruses etc.) then repair will be enough.

I suggest, you can try out the repair option first, if everything works fine, stick with it, else you can always do a clean reinstall. I have used the 'Repair' option successfully on a couple occasions. Give it shot, you have nothing to lose.
