Maruti Suzuki is all gearing up to compete against the recently refreshed Hyundai Elite i20 with the introduction of its premium hatchback codenamed the YRA. The test mule of this upcoming Maruti Suzuki premium hatchback has been spotted doing the runs by AutoCar India. The YRA will be placed above the Swift in the Maruti Suzuki food chain and will be based on the Ciaz sedan.

In terms of the design, the Maruti Suzuki YRA looks quite similar to the Swift. The headlights and the front grille look identical to the Swift except for the addition of chrome line that borders the sides and bottom of the car. The bumper now gets a wider air-intake and a pair of vertically placed daytime running lights which are placed next to the fog lamps. The mirrors, instead of being placed on the A-pillar, are now mounted on the door. In terms of dimensions, the YRA is expected to be wider and longer than the Swift.

Wider and longer than the swift. = bigger car = more expensive than swift(which isnt exactly spacious) = more expensive(about +70k) = bang on against i20 = premium

I never thought I would say this for a Maruti, but both Ciaz and this hatchback look very stunning. Kudos to Maruti.

Same here. Actually, if the idiots at Honda keep delaying Jazz launch and this one turns out a very good car, I might even book it.

Nice to see Etihad cargo in the background. Who took these pics??

As for the hatchback.. I'm sick of them to be honest it's like we just don't want to move beyond these buggy cars

They've taken a healthy inspiration from the Polo/Fabia for sure although a few better profile pics would help.

Are those LEDs

The model will be under the 4 metre mark lengthwise and will be eligible for excise duty benefits applicable for cars under the 4 metre mark.

The Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback will feature an all-new, curvy dashboard design. Earlier pics showed that the interior features an all-black color scheme with silver finished inserts for the center console and around the HVAC vents. Also, the car is equipped with a new three-spoke steering wheel, with an all-new instrument cluster design. It will also be kitted with tons of features to give the other premium hatchbacks sleepless nights.

The 2015 Maruti YRA is likely to get the following equipment :

  • Automatic climate control
  • Steering mounted controls
  • 2-DIN music system
  • ABS & EBD
  • Key-less entry
  • Engine start stop button
  • Electrically adjustable and folding wing mirrors
  • Front airbags
  • Reverse parking sensors

Looks low slung and sporty.

I have been really waiting for the Honda jazz. But now, the YRA has excited things.
If one buys the YRA, Maruti's resale value is the high point. Not to mention nice interiors and competitive pricing.
My heart is set on the Honda Jazz personally but I can wait only till March for both it. If YRA gets released before that and Honda doesn't release the Jazz by then, I might as well book this.

But need more details on the rear legroom and ride comfort for the YRA.

In the 2 interior pics posted by @AMG , the first pic shows that it is an automatic (or AMT) while the second pic shows the manual gear one.

Jazz isn't coming before July'15. link

Need to check the engine options. Their 1.3 fiat derivative / K12 will be under powered. Hope they plonk more powerful engines.
