A year has gone by in PC gaming and the gamers have been blessed with some pretty awesome AAA titles such as Crysis, Bioshock, COD 4: Modern warfare, The Orange box, and World in Conflict. These were only a few of the tantalizing titles that PC gamers were raving about in 2007. Let’s take a look at some of the exciting titles that are going to send us in a tizzy in 2008.

[BREAK=Spore, Alan Wake]
Spore
Release Date: September 08
By now almost everyone must have heard about this game by the legendary Will Wright, creator of the Sims series. It’s a game with a God complex (literally). In the game you start off as a single celled organism and go on evolving into a multi-cellular organism eventually becoming a great civilization. The concept of literally playing God and playing out your own little species sounds really exciting and has captured the imagination of many a gamers. Expect the game to be out around September this year. Till then curb your appetite for Spore by checking the web for screenshots and videos.

Alan Wake
Release Date: December 2008
After the release date being pushed back by at least a dozen times, Microsoft Games Studio is planning a December 2008 release. As the story goes Alan Wake is psychological thriller, Wake is a troubled writer who’s girlfriend has disappeared and mysteriously it co-incides with the story he is writing. Suffering from insomnia and he speeds off to the scenic town of Brights Fall where obviously he starts getting dreams/visions of his disappeared girlfriend. Yes we’ve all heard that before but the Alan Wake tech demo showcased back at E3 2005 showed off beautiful visuals and a huge area to explore. That and an irregular batch of updates from Remedy is keeping everyone interested.

[BREAK=S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, Far Cry 2]

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
Release Date: March 2008
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is the prequel to the highly innovative S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. The events in Clear Sky are set in 2010 a year before the original game. A lot of new areas are going to be added to the game which includes Red Forest, Limansk, Pripyat Undergrounds and more. Boasting even better DX10.1 graphics with the use of an enhanced X-ray engine the game will feature a lot more than just cosmetic updates. The original title was bogged by a lot of bugs and frame rate issues but the developers are working to address all of that in Clear Sky. Stay tuned for more.

Far Cry 2

Release Date: April 2008
Sequel only by its name, Far Cry 2 is completely different than its predecessor Far Cry. While the original game featured a lush tropical jungle environs replete with mutants and trigens, this sequel takes the player to the hot and relentless deserts of Africa and focuses on realism. The game also comes with a 50 Square mile area for your exploring pleasure. The most awesome feature however is the healing system which will actually have the player taking out bullets from his body after getting shot! Sorry no med-kits here for your disposal. However this innovative feature could very well be its Achilles Heel if not implemented properly. The graphics are rich and detailed and along with a Go anywhere do anything agenda this game looks like a killer title.

[BREAK=Fallout 3, Starcraft 2]

Fallout 3
Release Date: November-December 2008
Bethesda’s third foray into this franchise places the player in the post-apocalyptic United States with the player going in search of his father after he sets off deep into the heart of the wasteland. The game’s been having development/legal issues since a decade now however Bethesda has promised that they will be delivering the game this time around. According to the grapevine the game features 12 endings which you can have based on your gameplay. As with all games in this list Fallout 3 will feature gorgeous graphics, day/night cycle and variable weather conditions.

Starcraft 2
Release Date: December 2008
Like all greatly anticipated titles which have been stuck in a limbo for over a decade Starcraft 2 does not disappoint us there as well. Sequel to the legendary Starcraft this game has been highly anticipated by everyone. In this sci-fi RTS game the player can play any of the game’s three races namely Zerg, Terran and Protoss. Blizzard has actually consulted top players from various countries to aid in the development of this game. Details remain sketchy but the game will require relatively low system specs unlike most of the games on this list.

[BREAK=Duke Nukem Forever, Left 4 Dead]

Duke Nukem Forever
Release Date: November-December 2008
The big daddy of all the delayed games is finally coming to a PC near you late 2008. 3DRealms finally got out of their stupor and decided to finish this bad-ass action shooter finally. The official site however still shows “When it’s done.†After winning the “Vapourware of the Year†award several times over hopefully everybody’s favourite cigar chewing, alien ass-kicking will be back to doing what he does best! Hail to the King baby! The non-believers can check out the screenshots below.

Left 4 Dead
Release Date: May 2008
The most abused video-games villains after the Germans are perhaps the Zombies. These slow moving, brain-dead left-overs from a large scale epidemic attack our four unlikely heroes (yeah we’ve heard that before a lot). The players have to help each other out and get through a level safely. Players can also pit themselves each other by having one team playing as the humans while the other team controls zombies with special abilities. The game is powered by the Valve’s Source engine so players can expect good graphics and AI. The game features the usual array of weapons such as the pump shotguns, Uzi, Ruger mini-14,M16 rifle, handguns, Molotovs and pipebombs.
