Hi!
I am sort of new to computer modification

I have a branded system

Compaq (purchased in 2004 October)

2400+ AMD
40 GB
256 MB RAM (128*2)
FX 5200 GFX CARD
Sony DRU-810 DVD Writer
ATAPI CD Drive
17" Monitor

Motherboard I am not aware of

Power Supply 240 V

I am planing to upgrade it with 1 GB RAM and a 160 GB Hard disk or more

I want to know which make/type of Hard Disk Shall I go for.
Will 1 GB Stick Ram should be opted since I am thinking to carry on with one 128 stick and add 1 GB to it to make 1128 MB Ram
Will it make any diffrence?

Same goes for my Hard Disk

Will my power supply be sufficient??
Or shall I change it to 400 V?

Please help me out.
Thanks in advance guys

I think you are confusing wattage with voltage with powersupply.

If you are just upgrading the ram and HDD then your current PSU should do just fine.

The athlon XP does not benifit from dual channel DDR so you can use single 1GB stick. You might run into problems if you use the 128MB stick with 1GB due to mismatch of sticks. But give it a try. if it runs then fine otherwise just remove old stick.

As far as HDD goes you can buy hitachi or seagate 200/250GB PATA hard disk.
