Hello Friends,
Please help in upgrading my mobo. Following is my current config:
Proccy: Pentium 4 2.66Ghz
Mobo: Intel D101Ggc
Ram: 512MB DDR1
PSU: Stock with Intex cabinet
GFX: Will install 8600GT but meanwhile running onboard

Friends, As classic components are getting expensive, I am planning to upgrade my config. My basic requirement is gaming, overclock, workstation, browsing etc. So, Please suggest me best possible motherboard under budget of Rs.3k-4k that supports Pentium 4 too.
Thanks

Sell of rig, buy this:-

Athlon II X2 240 @ 3.2k

Biostar A785G @ 3.4k

2GB DDR2 800MHz @ 1.4k

Zebronics Krish @ 1k

Gigabyte 460W @ 2.5k

You can game on the onboard HD4200 which is comparable to a 6800GT(gud enuf from the onboard u have rite now :p). Then later on, you can add a card like HD5600 or HD5700 series..

Hi Addict, Thanks for the ausome AMD config but i am looking for Intel config. Cabinet and SMPS is not an issue. Currently, I am planning to change mobo which supports Pentium 4.

Buy Gigabyte G31 it's better i have an e7300 @3.3Ghz and e5200@3.43Ghz on that mobo both are working fabulously since 6months now. You need to buy New ddr2 Ram as well. :) Hope it helps.

Hi Salman!
Problem is Gigabyte G31 doesnt supports 533FSB as my P4 2.6 CPU is compatiable with only 533FSB.

Correct me if im wrong but if it supports 800Mhz FSB why will it not support a lower value? AFAIK any socket 775 chip should work fine on that motherboard. Please confirm this before you buy because the Gigabyte G31 boards are way better than the other G31s out there.

^^^^M telling u a new config is good..a 785G mobo makes more sense, and u can sell of ur rest of rig now itself....

Also, as I pointed out, u can buy a GPU later.. at the value segment, AMD simply rocks.

Amein, you seems to be right man. As i searched my current mobo specification on google i.e. Intel D101Ggc and what i have found "It is also rate as 800Mhz". Thats strange as my CPU FSB is 533Mhz. Whats going on? Somebody assist.

thats because your processor has only a 533FSB, even though the MB supports 800 Mhz FSB your processor only supports 533 Mhz FSB thats why your system is running at that speed

since the gigabyte says that processors with 800FSB&above are supported...you option would be gigabyte 945G chipset or any nvidia chipset geforce 7050 based mobo...

Hi Qams! Thanks for your reply but now the discussion going on is weather Gigabyte G31 chipset will support 533Mhz proccy or not as my current mobo i.e. Intel D101Ggc specified 800Mhz FSB. Chk above link for detail specification of my mobo.

OMG! A revolutionary discovery by Srirama.
Man! you are right, In the CPU support list of G31 there is "N/A = Not supported" status for my Pentium 4 506 2.66Ghz LGA 775 proccy. Now, its a deep confusion weather G31 mobo will support my CPU or not.

Sri_k, you are confusing me. As i am using Intel D101Ggc and its FSB supported is 800Mhz. Chk this link: Intel (D101GGC) Motherboard - Product details and features - DealTime

Thus G31 chipset may support my P4.

mate,

i am not confusing i said that gigabyte G31mobo would support processors from 800 to 1333FSB...so it will support P4's with 800FSB like certain pentium4,pentiumD has 800 FSB but not 533FSB...you could try you luck on gigabyte G31mobo..:) you board supports processor with 533 to 800mhz FSB which isnt mentioned on the link given...only when core2duos&pentium dual core came the default FSB speed is set to 800mhz FSB&all mobo manufactureres say that only processors with 800 to 1333FSB are supported....only intel's old chipset like 945G supports 533FSB&nvidia based mobos...
