Upgrading unlocked iPhone from 1.0.2 to 1.1.x

If you're on Windows I think ZiPhone can unlock older 3.9 BL phones as well, so you might want to give that a try. Or use anySIM if that fails.

Ragin_Ice: Not having much luck with EDGE. Doesn't seem to connect to Vodafone at all. I know I've got GPRS enabled on my SIM since it works with my N95. Any other ideas on how to re-virginize the baseband??

Do you see the edge options like apn etc in the settings?

Hi Edrill basic Gprs doesn't work on Iphone you need to go in for the advanced plan not sure about other operators

@apsk121: Yeah, I tried entering the APN settings for EDGE. Did a bit of browsing and from what I see, the APN name is either www or portalnmms. Neither work for me. Yogi might have a point. But on my N95, I can browse websites and stuff using the GPRS plan I got.

Ok. Downgraded to 1.0.2, but iBrickr keeps trying to reflash 1.0.2! Won't seem to do anything much other than telling me to free my phone! The modem firmware still shows 4.03.13_G. Gonna give Apptapp installer a try and see how it goes.

It won't work Edrill i had called up Vodafone helpline saying that the GPRS was working fine on my N80 why is it not working on my Iphone so they told me basic GPRS won't work need to go in for the advanced plan

I've given up on GPRS/EDGE to do it! Trying other stuff. Trying out the Downgrade bootloader option in ZiPhone. For what it's worth, I saw BL version 3.9 something somewhere in the terminal screen on the iPhone. Is that right? The modem firmware was shown as 4.03.3_G. Let's see what happens when this is done.

Edit: No change after doing that. Still shows 4.03.13_G as modem firmware and ZiPhone gave a message "Could not enable SSL"

Damnit! Nothing seems to be helping. Think I'll stop here for today!! Spent the whole day on this! The main screw-up is trying to install the BSD subsystem and SSH without wifi. Which is kinda ironic, because if I had wifi working, I wouldn't really need to install it!! Anyway, if anyone has any other ideas, throw them at me! I'm ready to try almost anything right now!!

Downgrading the phone via iTunes will not let you downgrade the baseband. To downgrade the baseband you'll have use iBrickr on windows, install BSD subsystem and mobile terminal on phone using brickr, and then upload the revirginising script. From there, it's simple. You have to use the command line to enter commands that will erase the baseband and reflash it to 3.** (I can't remember the exact version, but basically back to 1.0.2 baseband).

At the end of it, your phone will be back to 1.0.2 which you can then update to the version of your choice. Note that if your iPhone was manufactured after week 45 i.e. it's a v4.6 bootloader, then you'll first have to downgrade the bootloader using ZiPhone. Only then can you attempt to revirginise the baseband.

Have a look at this thread especially this bit:

Help, Wi-Fi doesn't work

- click Installer-icon on iPhone,

- click Install-icon, scroll down and click Utilities,

-- scroll down and click BossPrefs, click Install, click Install, wait a little...

- click home-button, slide "slide to unlock" to the right

- click BossPrefs-icon on iPhone,

- WiFi: click ON (ie. you turn it off), wait a little, click ON again

Or check this thread to fully and truly revirginise a 1.1.3 iphone to 1.0.2.

Again, note that this is all only or 3.9BL phones. So if your phone is 4.6BL then downgrade it using ZiPhone before doing any of this.

Thanks dude. Will check it out after work. I know iTunes doesn't downgrade the baseband, but even after downgrading to 1.0.2 through iTunes, iBrickr doesn't seem to want to talk to the phone. It kept trying to downgrade to 1.0.2 by itself. That's the reason I was a bit stumped after downgrading the firmware to 1.0.2 Anyway, I'll give it a shot again later. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

This would required EDGE/GPRS to be active, right??? I don't have the advanced GPRS plan. Just have the basic pay-for-what-you-use plan. Will have to see if I can borrow a friend's SIM card, else will have to go the 1.0.2 virginizing way!!

Been too busy with work to try anything over the past few days, but I have been looking around. I got iDemocracy 2.0.3 and it has an option for downgrading the baseband as well as virginizing. Anyone think it's worth giving a shot after downgrading to 1.0.2???
