PC Peripherals UPS care

I have an ELNOVA UPS. I am not sure how to maintain it, because I got to know different things from different sources as to how to take care of a UPS so that it has a longer lifetime. I have a few questions in this regard-

1. Should the mains connection to the UPS should always be kept switched on even if the PC is not in use so as to keep the UPS fully charged?

2. I have an inverter in my house that supplies battery-power in case there is no electricity. So, when there is no electicity, the computer power-supply is from Inverter->to UPS->to computer. I have been told that a UPS should not get supply from an inverter(battery) in case there is no electricity and that a UPS should only be supplied mains electricity.

Please help me with the above two problems.

for ?1: it depends on your UPS spec, if its a recent model then there is no need to keep power on ,unless it required to keep mains power On.check its user guide for more details .

for ?2: it also based on your UPS model, recent models are made with electronic circuits that protects its from quasi sine waves ac input (such as low cost invertors & generators)

if your inverter is a sine wave then there is no problem in the supply coming to your ups from the inverter.Incase it is a square wave inverter then it might not be so good.more inputs needed on this.
