hey

i'm from mumbai and i get pretty stable power at my place. there are odd fluctuations that happen (rarely, maybe once in a 4 months approx) and when it does my desktop restarts. do i really need a ups in this scenario or a voltage stabiliser (i dont really need any time to run it on battery or anything). i tried reading the sticky but all that sinewave stuff was :S

my config is --

1. CPU - Intel Pentium D 2.8ghz
2. Motherboard - Intel D102GGC2
3. GPU - NA
4. RAM - 1x1gb, 1x500mb
5. Monitor - ViewSonic VG1921wm
6. SMPS - intex 500w & cabinet - iball
7. benq dvd writer
8. hard drives - 1x 160gb WD, 1x 40gb SGT, 1x1TB sgt

my usage --

Browsing
Desktop Processing
occasional video conversion (of movie rips)
Download rig, 24x7 operation
streaming HD movies to ps3
i may or may not upgrade parts of the setup so a little leeway would be good. but even then i wouldnt go for some high end gaming rig.

so should i get one or let it be coz from what i was reading unless u get a real high end ups u may get noise etc..

TIA

any one with suggestions?

well you can get a APC 500VA UPS for around 2k.

it's enough for your rig.

it will provide back up as well as surge protection.. :)

For a 24x7 PC you always need UPS ...no question about it

a 500 va will do fine for you if you dont plan on buying a Graphics card in future.
