Hello TE folks,

I need a UPS to run only the Modem and the WLAN router. My apartment has generator backup, but it takes about 30-secs for the generator to come alive whenever the supply goes off. When this happens, I lose my connectivity and this is a problem if I'm on skype or VPN.

So, I thought I would go and buy a tiny little UPS and that should fix the problem. But, it seems that most UPSes need a minimum load (the shopkeeper mentioned 80W), or they go in standby mode. My modem and router are definitely not 80W and I'm against the idea of adding a dummy load.

Any recommendations on how to make this work? In other words, any other UPS whose min load requirement is much lower?

Thanks,
apande

+1 - even I would like to figure this out. We have a need to use a couple of laptops with internet , in a place of power cuts.

Any help guys ??

I'm just using the basic APC 550VA Back Ups (got for 1.9k from delta peripherals, chennai) only for the ADSL modem and wifi router. works well, does not drop the net connection when power goes off. I'll be just browsing with my laptop as if nothing had happened.
