PC Peripherals UPS wiring help

Hi friends,

I require some help regarding the UPS setup in our office.

Here is the current scenario:

We have 3 UPS : (i) 40 KVA (ii) 20 KVA (iii) 5 KVA

(i) is used to power all desktops

(ii) is a backup UPS - if (i) fails there is a manual changeover switch which will enable all desktops to draw power from (ii) instead of (i)

(iii) is used to power the servers

(20 KVA is sufficient for desktops and 5 KVA is sufficient for servers)

Here is my proposed setup:

a) Use the 40 KVA UPS to power both desktops and servers (The 20 KVA and 5 KVA UPS will not be on load during normal operation)

b) If the 40 KVA UPS fails, automatically switch over the desktops to use the 20 KVA UPS and the servers to use the 5 KVA UPS

My questions:

1) Is (b) technically possible? Is there hardware available that will switchover from a failed UPS to another without the computers going down?

2) What is the approximate cost we are looking at for just the hardware to do the switchover (please ignore any wiring cost)?

3) Can anyone recommend some good electricians in Bangalore to do this job?

4) Off-topic, what would be the approximate cost of a new 40 KVA UPS?

Hows this wiring diagram?

40KVA ups -----> Manual Switch ---> 20KVA ups ------> Connect Desktops only

____________________|-----------> 5 KVa ups ------> Connect Servers + networking hardware only

If the 40KVA ups fails then with manual switch you can switch over to both the ups seamlessly. No hardware required i guess.

Thanks, it would be a lot better if the switchover were automatic. Manual switchover has the disadvantage that the systems would go down leading to data loss and potential file system corruption.

Do you have knowledge of availability of such a switch, its approximate cost, and more importantly whether it is capable of effecting the switchover without the computers going down?
