Hi,

today I bought a c2d 2.4Ghz + Asus P5GC-MX/1333 MOBO. the problem is I bought a single piece of Zion DDR-II 800Mhz RAM.the booklet came with asus mobo clearly shows it supports only "dual channel memory 2x240-pin DIMM sockets suport upto 2GB of unbuffered non-ECC 667/533Mhz DDR DIMMs "

the problem :-

Can I use this 2 GB DDR-II 800Mhz stick on this mobo?will it break mobo if I use the 800Mhz stick?should I get a 667Mhz stick as replacement? also ,as quoted above ,does One RAM slot supports 2 GB memory?:huh:

ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 - technical specifications and detailed characteristics with Twenga

^here it shows 4GB support though:@

Please Help! It is urgent!I wanna assemble now ,but fret from breaking mobo :ashamed:

hey thanks!also please confirm this problem :

I got a DDR2 800Mhz RAM while this mobo supports at maximum 667Mhz !Now Is your answer true reg this scenario too? Please verify! Thanks and reps!

and ,I have a single 2 GB DDR-II 800Mhz stick :|

Hey,

ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 supports max 4GB i.e 2x2GB memory.

800MHz RAM would run just fine on a 667MHz capable mobo. Just that it would scale down to run at that speeds. However, if ur PC doesn't boot up, just set the memory speed manually in the BIOS and then the mobo would recognize the RAM as 667 MHz RAM and Voila, there u go, no replacements required. :)

Sorry for the edit...

No problems will be thr.... I have done it many times....

It will just run the 800 Mhz at 667 Mhz....Nothing more.... :)

PS : How do u think it will break the mobo  Do they have some 10-15kg heatsinks on the rams..... :D

^it is DDR-II 667Mhz maximum.

@ronnie: I had a very bad experience :P .I tried two DDR-I rams of different freq(400Mhz and 333Mhz) on a gigabyte 915GV based board , -result was board bricked ;)

I have tried like 3 different speed RAMs on an ASUS P5 Deluxe board and all were running at the lowest speed.
It mite be the board which could not let the RAMs run at low speeds in ur case. Don't worry, the board won't go kaput.:ohyeah:

well ,I dont want to get a obsolete 667Mhz one as replacement.

I think this mobo with latest bios updates supports up to 4GB of ddr2 ?

anyways ,I am going to try this RAM soon! Pray for me and my board :(

sorry for the late reply.my net was down.

I assembled the board ,processor and ram.everything is fine. thinking of getting a clone of 2 GB zion for a dual channel?

I did find a info on BIOS where it says FSB =800Mhz .does it means the board is supporting 2GB 800Mhz ?

^ well one of my Mobos Palit N73 V says DDR2 667 Mhz on the box...but after a bios upgrade it now supports 800 Mhz... and I thinks if the RAM frequency shows 800 it is running in 800 Mhz.... u can use CPU z to check ....but you might need windows to use tht
