Hello, first the informarion :

Budge : 30k

Usage : Mostly using MS office, movies, songs, gaming (very lite, if any), surfing (through wifi/lan), downloading and similar basic stuff.

Weight : doesnt matter much

Size : atleast 15"

Brand : Confused here as to what to go with.

Any other requirement : Not much other than basic stuff.

I have looked through few models around 30k price range but I am not sure with which to go. Some of the shortlisted ones are :

1.Dell Vostro 1540 Ci3/ 4GB/ 500GB/ Linux Laptop http://www.flipkart.com/dell-vostro...kg--&ref=16e0d1bb-5b13-4937-9e50-9bbcaa933b05

2. Asus P53E-S0101D / 2nd Gen Ci5 / 4 GB / 750 GB / DOS http://www.flipkart.com/asus-p53e-s...Q7_K618Cc8sg3kQ--&_r=o1scBSioSzA92Rmk0PMQ+w--

3.Toshiba Satellite C Series C640-X4012 Laptop http://www.flipkart.com/toshiba-sat...aptop/p/itmd2bhsjzansw2c?pid=COMDFEDK5PGYZCAX

Now these all are around 30k but I am not sure with which to go. If you want to add any other model to the list, you are most welcome. I am planning on buying a dos/linux system and installing windows OS on the laptop myself (hope it is possible on these linux/dos laptops).

So, suggestions are welkcome. Also would like to know is Asus a good bet.

Regards

Also, flipkart is showing some laptops as "Out of Stock". Any idea how long they take to refill their inventory or they just say out of stock to those models which are no longer provided by them.

Dell's build quality is better. One can easily install windows OS on dos/linux systems. Also go for i5 if you can spend a bit more.

Go for 2nd generation i3. The vostro 1540 has 1st gen i3. So avoid.

In fact 3rd generation Core i series is being released on April 29.

So by end of May or early June you can expect laptops sporting the 3rd gen Core i series processors in India.

Among the ones you mentioned (& overall), nothing beats Asus-P53E in this range. Go for it, its very good.
