Laptops Urgent help needed: Forgot lappy's bios password

A friend has a Acer travelmate 4020 notebook.

While trying to set boot device priority something went wrong and the bios and system's HDD passwords got changed.

Now we can't log on to the laptop as its neither accepting the old nor the new passwords.

My friend took the lappy to NP,Delhi, but all guys there are charging 2000 bucks for a bios reflash.

What could be a cheaper solution.
I've tried all possible backdoor passwords but they aren't working even.

Please pour in some quick suggestions guys.

Any sort of help will be deeply appreciated.

Did you try calling Acer and asking them for help? Also since laptops need extra security,so, manufacturers store the password on a chip (on the mobo)... also the HDD password is a big pain-in-the-***, the password is hard to recover without professional help. It prevents any sort of reading/writing... so generally you can't plug it in some other PC and format it. (this was true in my case, maybe different for you)

2000 bucks is not so bad, It maybe your only solution. But, do ask them beforehand as to what method they are going to use. I am pretty certain the BIOS reflash thing won't work (pass saved on separate chip).

Go for professional service dude.

/mental note to self: never do what ^ did. use truecrypt instead with keyfiles.

me and my friend had opened up an old dell ourselves. take out the cell in it to reset cmos.. but not sure if taking out cell would work for today's laptops

Thanks for the suggestions guys, :)
Anyways we eventually had to shell out that amount for the repair, as we went out of options.:(

The most irritating part being that when i exited out of the bios after seeing everything locked with passwords i selected "Discard changes and exit" but it still got f*ckd up.

After that even the old passwords weren't working nor did the new pass.
Needless to say, this was the most frustrating experience.:@
