Hi all,

I have an issue here, last night my dad lost his Nokia 5800, during his official trip to Bangalore. Once he realized it was lost, he tried calling his number & looks like someone has already found it coz they're cutting the call just as it rings.

Even I had been trying the same from my side & again the same thing happened. I even texted to that number, requesting them to return the phone if found & also that I will arrange for some cash while returning. The message got delivered as per the report. The idea sounded silly, but I gave it a try. After a while we were getting not reachable response, so we concluded that they might have removed the sim.

The thing is, my dad had stored some important official data & some sensitive information in the notes. Since we have the bill & IMEI number of the phone, is there any way to trace the phone after filing a complaint??

If all fails, I atleast want to hotlist the IMEI number & render the phone useless.

Please guide me as to how to proceed in this issue.

You will need to file an FIR using the IMEI number (and contact the operator), from what I recollect from another member Faheem's experience. He did trace the lost iPhone and could retrieve it eventually with the cop's help.

Wait for him to pitch in.

If sensitive data = credit/debit card numbers or passwords, that takes higher priority than finding the phone. Change the passwords asap.

using the IMEI number you can find out what number he is using.Of course this involves checking with all the possible service providers.

Ahh this is the first time I'm hearing that someone actually got their phone back by tracing. Waiting for his reply now :)

Yes, that was the first thing I did once I came to know about the loss of Phone, I called up our personal Banker and asked to block all transactions from my Dad's account for a few days, till he's back.

I knew about it, but what I don't know is are there any official procedures to follow, which I want to know before I approach these providers/police, if not then they'll surely take me for a ride. So I want to play safe.

Once the SIM card is removed from mobile the operators can't do anything abt tracing.

Did u install any securty softwares like remote wipe etc?
