Help needed.. not able to download Vista SP1 on one of ma frens laptop,have been trying to download it through windows update,

Gotta love these "urgent" threads, no? 
Maybe your laptop has a driver/hardware which has problems with SP1 and Windows Update has detected this fact and is not offering SP1 as a download option.
I'm not sure if it's safe, but you could download the full SP1 package (600+ MB) separately and try to install from that. That too might not install if it detects driver issues or it might ruin yo fren's laptop...
Please search for "Vista SP1" and the laptop brand and model number you might find some pages talking about such an issue...
