I have a HP pavilion lappie , now its not booting up, I have created some 3 partitions other than c and d drive, and stored my data in those, if I do system recovery, will I lose data in those drives???

It depends on what the recovery disk does. On my very old laptop, it used to wipe all partitions and reinstall the OS on C Drive. Please don't try recovery without verifying what exactly it does. If you could give more details about what exactly is the problem, when you say it is not booting up, some knowledgeable member might be able to help.

HP recovery disks usually restore your laptop to as it was when you bought it. So yes, your partitions will be screwed. Did you get the windows disk with the laptop? if yes its better to use that to do clean install on c:.

otherwise simply download untouched windows disk image off torrents and use your key to activate.

If your laptop is the new model, the recovery disk will recreate the recovery partition on your laptop, once created u can boot into the recovery partition and re install the OS,

That data will get lost, so ensure you backup the same before trying anything

I was also under the impression that using the recovery disk will delete all data in harddisks. However, when I tried, it just restored C drive, didn't touch other drives. That is, all data in D Drive+linux partitions remained untouched. Mine is HP DV5 1015tx bought 1 year ago. I have done recovery only once. So, don't take my comment as final.
