Hi all,

I wanna take backup of outlook. I know the traditional way to do this, like export and saving them in PST, etc, etc. This method is time consuming & I have many PC's to take backup.

Therefore I don't wanna do this, what I'll be doing is, I'll be going to

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

And then copy& paste the date in it to some safe place. And then on new PC, I'll copy & paste these files at the same location, will it do? Will doing this is safe & i'll get back my all mails?

Pls reply it today only , as tomorrow I'll be doing this process, its urgent.

Thanx.

the method u mentioned is perfect and heavily used in IT services :) , i used to end up taking corporate backups the same way u mentioned.....and its sure to backup everything ....also i would suggest for multiple PC's u can make indidual folders 1 with the pst file folder and also backup the NK2 file from the following path...

drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

this helps carrying the autocomple address which comes when we start typing an address in the fields....."very" usefull.

^^ ok, thank u , I thought it is better to first confirm & then do. Because there are many PC's & I don't wanna do anything wrong. And yes I would make individual folders for every PC.

If users are using the Personal Address Book then it would be worth copying the PAB file as well.

Yes that will do but ensure that Outlook is not running at that moment. And you should know that all the mail filters / rules defined in the mailboxes will be lost if you format those pcs as these filters arent stored in outlook.pst.

I have done this with older versions of Outlook like 2000 and all the rules etc are in the PST.
The problem arises only in the kind of scenario where someone here had suggested that he should export individual folders. If he does that, he will miss out on the filters.
