Hey Guyz,

In our company we recently bought a IBM based Email Server. and we bought a 512kbps dedicated connectivity to download emails from our mumbai based email server. We are having a very weird problem. When we connect the net to a standalone desktop or laptop, the ping rate is good, but when the same net connection is connected to server and the server is connected to the network then ping rate drops drastically and we get tooo many RTOs'. I thought it could be the load problem, but they disconnected all the computers from the network except 1 computer but yet same problem. Can you please advice.

Thx n Rgds

Hi,

Give details of email server and software configuration.

Check for :

Port blocking at ISP end, they won't admit - but you have to find it out.

Check for virus or malicious s/w in your system. Some ISPs block internet con. if they find your IP is leaking.

We are using a X3650 IBM server with windows 2003 Standard. We are using a Java bases email solution called Iquinox ( Postmaster) by QLC (QLC)

The port is open because the webmail page can be accessed from out of the network provided the port number is added to the address. Server is brand new so virus and malicious content is ruled out as far as I know. The ISP is Tulip IT with 1:1 512 on RF.

How do we find out if the IP is leaking ?

Also need to mention here that the LAN gateway and ISP ( natted) gateway is on the same subnet. Would that have a impact ?

Thank you

'Also need to mention here that the LAN gateway and ISP ( natted) gateway is on the same subnet. Would that have a impact ?' Hmmm... need to check your network config thoroughly.

It can't be an RJ45 problem since system is performing well solo.

So, it points to your network configuration.

hey guys,

Just wanted to update on this issue, turns out that our IP was being used by spammers to send spam mails and hence was hogging away our bandwidth completely, we got the firewalls in place n everything is working smooth now, thx for all the help
