Hi all

need help for my laptop with windows vista installed....
windows is not booting & pc in booting only in safe mode
in that too copy commant is not working either in graphical mode or in DOS window
I have some important data in my lappy(only 1 drive/disk volume is there in it)

how to save that data from getting formatted, if I try to install new windows....
HOW does recovery drive of laptop works ?

You can use an external HDD casing and insert the Drive in that & plug into another computer as an external HDD

I think then you can copy all your important files to that computer & then reinstall windows in the laptop HDD

Thanx for quick reply dude.....

anyways, are you saying to remove laptop HDD from it and put it into a HDD casing ?
Am I getting you right ?

You could try booting from a Linux live CD and copying your stuff in a spare USB Flash drive or via a cross LAN cable to another computer.

You could try Hiren Boot CD and boot from Mini Windows XP - which is my personal preference when faced with such situations. Copy over your stuff to another USB device.

Do remember to set your HDD to IDE mode instead of AHCI if you have AHCI enabled in BIOS. Since the Hiren method is not completely legal I cannot help you with links, but google can be your friend.

Use Parted Magic - it can be installed on USB pen drive / Hard drive, boot into Parted Magic, you can copy files individually / you can even copy partitions using GParted / take images of partitions using partimage.
