Urgent: Info & Recommendation for Mobile Upto 4Ks

Hi,
I would like to know of good mobile phones under the price of 4Ks for a cousin of mine.

Max adjustment +/-500 bucks.

Preferably with a Color Display and Polyphonic ringtones.
I did a small lookup on the internet and have a few listed like
  • Sony Ericsson T290 - 3500/-
  • Sony Ericsson T230 - 3250/-
  • Samsung C110 - 4000/-
  • Samsung C200 - 4200/- (Yea slightly above but recommended to me.)

Any help will be appreciated.
Infrared, bluetooth, USB etc are added advantages.
Addressbook and Memory for atleast 200 contacts needed.
Camera NOT NEEDED
MP3 NOT NEEDED

Since i dont have a mobile, i dont know much, but i hope the info provided above should be good enough.
Kindly request more info if required.

Have time until tomorrow.
Thanks.

nokia 3100/3120 is pretty good.(though above 4k)

It has arnd 1MB memory
Good contacts book and calendar
and good batt life

I think that nokia is much better then Sony and others atleast in the budget section...
If u want more memory (10mb) and better screen(65k) then u can also go fr samsung X100. It is a great phone.

Shortlisted the Sony T290i and Nokia 2600
T290i = Rs. 3500/-
2600 = Rs. 3800/-

Would have loved to get the Samsung X100 but some shops say its discontinued while others say its out of stock and cannot be predicted when the handset will be available.

As for LG phones, most dealers told me not to go in for it as the phones have battery problems after a month or two of use.

Motorola Handsets, well...theres only one in this 5k Range a flip one which is not very good and is similar to that nokia 2650.

A few important questions i would like answered
Whats the difference between a Dual Band GSM moblie and a Tri Band GSM Mobile? and will the Dual Band GSM compatibility limit my options on a service provider?

Apart from this, plans are to go in for the Orange scheme of 2500/- prepaid sim for a year.
If theres a similar offer in Mumbai from Airtel, kindly let me know.

Thanks for all the help.

PS: i thought i would list the prices of the Handsets i enquired about today.

* J300i - 5000/-
* J210i - 4600/-

dual band = 800/900 MHz

triband = 800/900/1800 or 1900, not sure..

all providers in india use either 800 or 900..so tribad not really needed ehre ATM

Hey Anshul, I'm selling my Sony Ericsson T630 for 5k, let me know if you're interested. It's 3 months old and in very good shape (as you might have already seen).

Reason why I want to sell it: I want to upgrade!

I think you can get a new panasonic a200 for around 4k.My friends also got one.Its a really cute small phone, its also very light and its got superb battery life too of around 9h talk time.Plus its got a 65k colour screen

I dont know but i read somewhere that the T290i has quite a long battery life
I am astonished at the stats though.

Checked at 4 places

Networks Talk time (up to) Standby time (up to) Video call (up to)
GSM 900 12.00 hours 300.00 hours -
GSM 1800 12.00 hours 300.00 hours -

actually SE has always been optimistic regrading battery life specs...:bleh:

But T290i still should be good considering that it has stn screen which consumes less batt then tft...
and yeah T630 will be also good.Features or not,It is by far the sexiest phone in the market.

Well...Frankly speaking...after comparing T290i and 1600, i think T290i has more features.
So, unless that Dual Band thing has any impact on the performance in signal reception or similar stuff, i think T290i is the way to go:)
