CPU/Mobo Urgent: Need HELP!!! comp wont boot

ok so my comp got fried due to a power surge....
mobo (Intel G33) is burnt verified by intel, psu is definately fried....

so i went ahead and bought a new mobo (Giga G31) and psu (FSP II 500w), surprise surprise it wouldn't boot (i.e. the fans would spin for a second but then no boot, no power)

so i assumed my E6750 was fried as well... so i went ahead and bought a used E7500 as replacement.

NOW that ive setup everything, new mobo, new psu, new used proccy :p, old ram ....IT STILL WONT BOOT!!! fans just spin for a second but no boot. Ive alredy re-checked all the cables....am i connecting the cabinet (power button wrongly?) still wouldnt explain the fans moving fr a second.
im guessing the mobo is receiving power for a second...hence the fans spinning but nothing after that
even if i remove the ram sticks...nothing. same old 1 second fan movement....press power button for 10secs then again the same thing

ive been without a desktop for 3 weeks now, not to mention the investment of 9k on EOL stuff, need this fixed asap :(

This is what happened when my PSU was worn out..

>>In your case Install only Processor & Mobo nothing else. Try anything Comes up...

>>Try the Ram on a different computer.

I read this > PERFORM THESE STEPS before posting about boot/no video problems! - New-System-Build - Homebuilt-Systems

and basically removed my mobo from my case and connected it only to the psu..... it came on. while removing it my nose touched a part of the cabinet and i got a lil shock...meaning either the cabinet has still not recovered from the surge and is discharging static elec? or the screws holding the mobo to the cabby were preventing it from booting

am i suppose to buy a new cabinet now :S ?? how do i fix this

Remove everything out & try placing on a flat surface with newspapers below. Connect the stuffs one by one. i.e., PSU + mobo . If yoou are able to see any light on the mobo when turned on, then it means mobo is receiving the power . Similarly try everything one step at a time... & figure out which is the faulty device.

PS: I think you have earthing issues in your house. Getting a shock probably indicates that. Rectify that first.

Check the PSU if it works fine even thought it might be new this seems like the exact same problem I had.

Remove all conenction of the PSU from PC.Put a pin bettween the GND and PWR ON ( Black & Green) Any black and the Green as shown below.. Check if the PSU fans stops or it keeps running continuously.

Do it at your own risk.. I did this to check if my PSU was working , I just bent a pin and I shoved it in the Green(PWR_ON) and Black (GND).

>>Take everything outa the cabby now ..conenct mobo , Proc and check one by one . Always connect some load while testing. A case fan would do.

I placed the mobo on its cardboard box, connected the psu and put in my E6750, voila it booted, the psu was running so was the cpu (which i thought was dead). i tried with the E7500 and that booted as well but on the boot screen it said no hdd detected.
which is when i plugged in the hdd, after that no boot up with either cpu. meaning something is wrong with the hdd, maybe its still discharging some kind of static current?? :S

i used a screwdriver to boot the comp frm the connectors, couldnt enter bios since im using a usb wireless kb or mayb the screen jus loads to quickly.

so i know the E6750 works now that i saw it while the boot screen was coming up, so basically i bought a E7500 for nothing

next questions:
1) how do i fix this? try another hdd?? i need windows to boot
2) do i still need a new cabby?
3) the E7500 has 2 yrs warranty left the E6750 jus finished 3 years, which 1 should i keep, which 1 should i sell :)

Use 3 Pin connector to the socket ,disconnect everything and then connect only the basic stuff n if doesn't work try hdd with different sata connectors or try different cable n if it doesn't work then try hdd on different PC. :)

Do this

1) Connect only PSU and Mobo, see if it works. It should beep missing CPU.

2) Add CPU, rinse repeat.

3) Add RAM, try onboard video if you have

4) Add GFX

5) Add HDD's

6) Add Optical Drives

7) Add everything else.

Always troubleshoot like this.

there is a short in the hdd, in the pcb (presumably) which is causing the psu not to power up (as a safety feature).

i dont think the data on the drive is lost tho...

question is will seagate fix it? since it was due to a power surge? any point even trying?

or do i have to take it to a local hdd repair guy? a 750GB 7200.11 - replacement pcb must be rare.

Hdd do get short circuit under a power surge. Seagate will replace the HDD with a new one, but no data. Second you can try your luck with local repair guy, but then your warranty will go..and chance of getting HDD alive are not high.

If data is important then go for repair else just do RMA.

Try finding a similar HDD and replacing the board from that HDD. You will get your data back(hopefully) and then RMA it.
