Please make Events and meets section private again. :P

Not that it's attracting new members imho- even those who are registered and are aware of meets don't come except for the previously regular guys.

OR

Atleast make pics invisible to the general public/guests/unregistered members. :)

(Or suggest how does one make the pics visible to only TE members- i don't know that yet if already available. :ashamed:)
 
I don't see any purpose in that. A lot of registered members are still anonymous individuals like general public/guests/unregistered members. In that sense why restrict the viewing rights to just them and exclude the rest.
 
What Bikey is saying makes sense to me.

Meets are personal events details of which can be shared among friends and the community but I don't see why an unregistered member or general public should be able to view it.

If you are really interested in our meets just register here and become one of us :)
 
But really, it just takes an email address to register. And how does just joining makes one part of the community or for that matter acceptable enough to share the meet pics with.
 
TE meets are pretty personal events imho. :cool2:

A lot of jokes cracked cannot be shared with other TE friends who couldn''t attend, if public.

Some of the events in the recent past have members indulging in alcoholic beverages at times-

though we totally avoided that earlier, strictly and and do try to avoid now too but we can't restrict anyone if the venue serves the same.

Parents won't surely approve of such meets or their wards attending one- no matter what age group- most are not frank with their parents.

They may think wrongly of TE and TE meets/members.

And we can't keep going to Cream Centre again and again-

especially after the prices are much higher now for average stuff that the average money spent per person can fetch them a nice buffet meal. :@

and they don't even give a discount to us though "meet at Cream Centre" implies TE Mumbai meet to all TEites. :@ :rofl:

And there may be certain other personal reasons for some.

Like i said earlier- we don't indulge in any sort of addictive/illegal stuff to lure attendees- but those who attend a meet usually get hooked and try to make it to the next one. :ohyeah:

I have hardly found someone say- " ohh- nice pics- nice meet- i am also coming next time"

It's usually been- "Always wanted to meet you/you'll". :cool2:

It's not suited for public viewing imho- period.

If it's not private, it's out there in the open for anyone and i surely don't like that. :)

(Like some meets may happen at someone's home and the host may not like sharing that with any random person on the net.

And they are definitely not for the timepass of some net-addicts who won't move their butt from their rooms.)

Best would be to allow user to choose thread be made private (TE members only) or public. :cool2:

And at least the pics have to be private ( i don't know how to do that yet :ashamed:)
 
Though i have never attended a meet, i have always thought why Meets sections is viewable to unregistered members?? Why why why? Isn't it something private?
 
if u want to put up the TE_meet pictures and want privacy also , they why dont u just share the pictures n stuff via other means like email or messenger

y u have to post here on TE and let the rest to see

as simple
 
I agree too. Events and meets are personal things. Should be made private. Although I think posting pics of members smoking/consuming alcoholic beverages should be avoided. If it is not acceptable to many members/their families, then they should:

A). Request other members of the meet to not click them with the questionable material.

B). Avoid posting the objectionable pictures on TE.

C). Avoid consuming the objectionable material.

Since C). is very unlikely to happen, then I guess A). and B). can be practiced strictly. Of course, I am all for making the events and meets section private. At least that way, it would be restricted to TE members only. I don't like the idea of any random person who can access the internet following my personal life (read TE meets, even though I never attended one :ashamed: ).
 
Parents thingy don't make any sense as we already have obscene or not suitable for children thread in here :no: at least in my case parents don't check my tech sites :rofl: but yes these threads MUST NOT be visible to guests in here..

Agree on this one, if your stuff is that private for you then it is better to up them up in rar'd files with passwords on rapidshare like sites or mail/msgr is always here :P
 
Well I do understand the members wish for personal privacy but I fail to understand how making the TE meet threads private serve that purpose. At the most it would just be an exclusive feature for TE members like the market section but hardly private.

But then if you are comfortable with sharing the meet pics/details with a couple of hundred anonymous TE members, it shouldn't be an issue if an anonymous net user is able to access it too. Once you post something here you have to contend that pretty much anyone can access it.

And whats there to stop the parents to create an account to check up on their wards online activities.

Yes. Events & Meets should be made Private.
I guess there is no way we can make pics viewable only to TE members.

The title of the thread indicates it is a request to the concerned authorities. :cool2:

I never titled this as "Should we make meets section private?" :bleh:

But comments are always welcome even on the most serious topics- TE is pretty democratic. :P

Also, General Talk/meets or the entire lounge as it is now was always a private section till some sections suddenly popped open i dunno when. :)

On the topic of why post if so private-

If there are people who have attended meets often and can't make it to one, it doesn't mean they are not curious to know what all they missed.

There are also those who would love to attend but are unable to and want to know about the same.

Some of the best of TE buddies may not be from the same city and may not have met each other too but surely catch up on details of meets in other cities. :)

And it's better to post an account of the meet with pics so that whoever maybe interested may read, somewhat like the minutes of a meeting.

I don't think it's feasible to mail everyone and it's akin to spam imho.

Minutes of a private meet are never made public.

And TE meets are not public meets where anyone on the street is allowed to join in. :)

I do not expect people who haven't attended TE meets, forget being regular, to understand.

Wish it were as simple as you suggest. :)

NSFAA is to be declared by the poster- just like it is freely available on the net.

If a person registers at a place, they have agreed to abide by the rules of that place and any act by them is their responsibility.

Can't say so for guests- so privacy option is a must imho.

TE meets do have under-18 or just-18 members attending. :)

And honestly, age doesn't matter- i know 25+ guys who may have a big problem at home if their parents come to know of their drinking/smoking habit.

And no matter what, TE and other TE members shouldn't be accused if so happens- as has been observed typically of parents accusing the friends generally.

And so it was just an example of a possibility that can be avoided- don't take it as the prime example.

TE members who may indulge in the above have always been quite responsible and have avoided drinking/smoking during TE meets. :cool2:

And any pics that may be NSFAA don't make it here.

All said and done, i don't see anyone giving a valid reason why it should stay public and not be made private again.

People are just debating for the sake of a clinical analysis of the supporting statements. :)

Hope the mods and admins take note of this soon. :)
