Hey ppl,

Since I have decided to purchase a 19" monitor and getting a 680W SMPS, can you suggest which UPS to get to power the system. I need around 10-15 mins of backup time and the ability to prolong the life of the UPS by changing batteries later. I was thinking about the APC 1 kVA model.

Any suggestions?

Please post soon. Also mention the approximate cost of the UPS.

Cheers,

Karan

I use an APC RS 800 UPS and it handles the load of my setup without a problem - tho it will not do a cold start of the system which my older APC 650 BackUPS Pro did without a problem.
Load on UPS.......

P4 2.4C / 1GB / Display card / Audigy / 19" Monitor / 2 Opticals / upto 3 HDDs / floppy / scanner / 2 external modems / Altec 621 speakers / Antec TP 480w

The software which comes with the APC UPS - Powerchute is quite nice keeps track of dips in voltages and gives reading of the voltage of the incoming power.

I think the 1kva version of my UPS is a better buy. Phone APC and ask them to put you in touch with the person in charge of sales in your area - these sales people are extremely helful.

Here is screen capture from the Powerchute software indicating the load and the estimated back time for my system.
