I was using the xbox 360 controller for COD4 so far, but although I LOVE the convenient locations of so many buttons, the precision that it offers (e.g. when sniping) is not very good. I have also realized the limitations of my normal optical logitech mouse (1000 dpi I believe - the black one, don't know if it even has a model!), and need something better for games like COD4.

From whatever I have read in the last couple of days, it seems my best bet is the Logitech mx518. Am thinking of buying it tomorrow morning, so would love any last minute suggestions.

  1. My budget is Rs. 1500 maximum.
  2. I also need a mousepad I suppose, but I can't justify spending anything above Rs. 200 on a mousepad - so any suggestions?
  3. I suppose I have the "claw" type of grip for playing games - is the mx518 good for the claw grip?
  4. How easy-to-use are the two thumb buttons? E.g. if I want to make one button to toggle prone, and one for sprint/hold breath for sniping, is the button placement convenient?
  5. From what I can gather, the mouse is available for Rs. 1300 in Nehru Place. Is that accurate?

:thanx:

+1 go for the MX-518..i like it....and gamerz around the world luuuv it.....but a mice is usually a matter of personal choice

its a great mouse, but i doubt you will get it for Rs. 1300 in NP. I think SMC sells it for somewhere around Rs.1375

me havin mx 518 (got free from paymate offer   ) its a gr8 mouse buddy 1800dpi is its max n u can even bind thumb buttons ;)

the mx518 is 1600dpi not 1800^^

i have it too but it doesnot suit a claw type grip....its suited to people who put their whole hand on the mouse...

ask around for an MSIE 1.1 ..... its supposed to be pretty good

you gotta need a big hand to have a claw grip on that mouse, and since you are buying a mouse for precision in aiming,do not compromise on the mouse pad.

are you playing the game on pc or xbox??

PC - just using the Xbox 360 controller with some 3rd party software as COD4 does not natively support it.

Well I think I have been using the claw grip mainly because I find my current mouse a little small. I'll give it a try, but I think if the mx518 is ergonomic, I would use it properly.

I neeeeeed extra buttons!! That's mostly how I am justifying buying a new mouse to myself.

I'm a first time WASD user, and I have a veeeery basic keyboard, so as far as possible I would like to restrict the number of keys I need to use on the keyboard. In a perfect world, I would only use the directional keys.

^^ Interested if it comes within my 1500 budget!! Otherwise I am pretty much set on the mx518.
Also, are any of these products (or anything similar) available here?

Before buying a fancy mouse please consider how you hold a mouse. I just bought a MX518 which is supposed to be one of the best gaming mice. Unfortunately after one day of usage my hands started paining and I had to go back to my plain old MS optical mouse. I had also tried the G5 and Iball laser before the MX518 but for some mysterious reason I was getting a headache with laser mice.

The MX518 is great and all that, unfortunately its also big. This is usually not a problem but I hold my mouse differently, not with the palm but just 2 fingers and thumb, infact i barely hold it and the ms mouse is not high so my hand reaches over without straining. The logitech is bigger and higher and I have to strain so it doesn't work for me.

I own a Razer Copperhead and I'm pretty happy with it. Given your budget, I'd suggest the MX 518 as well but if you can afford to wait a bit more, get this beast i'm using along with the exact mat bundle.
