It wasn't some goof-up or wizardry... It's called embargoed news item. Media is given access to certain events beforehand BUT they can't publish about it until that event happens. Classic example is PM's UN speeches. All the newspapers get it in advance BUT with an instruction that they won't publish it until PM actually completes his speech. Ever wondered how TV channels come up with speech-analysis right after the event ends? It's because they had already prepared it before the PM even finished his speech.
Editors just put the word "Embargoed" in the title and hand it over to the guy responsible for uploading or publishing the news. It's that idiot who goofed up and not the editor. Heck, the editor clearly mentioned "Don't publish" in the title.
Because such a revelation might impact markets, they didn't make it public until the right time (Rajan's exit in Sept).
