looks again good heaven for grey market again as now they can import and can sell at lower price then already available iphone 4 in india

Oh god...this is so unfair for people who have bought iPhone 4's locked to Airtel or Aircel in India. I mean, how much time would it take for these unlocked phones to hit Indian shores. Now, I am tempted to buy one... :D

This definitely deserves a separate thread, i will give some reasons for its significance:P

1.This means all the future iphones will be available as factory unlocked in US.
2.Amazon will surely give a better pricing.
3.Easier to source factory unlocked phones from US via aramex or friends when compared to HK or SG,not counting UK as its expensive there.
4.Like ipod touch we will get good deals on both ebay.com and ebay.in

nobody in their right mind would have bought the locked iphone 4 from airtel, aircel when its available as factory unlocked at apple stores, letsbuy, buytheprice etc..

More importantly it means Apple inc will get it smack in the face with their attempt to dump the iphone4 in India and notch up some official sales figures to increase their smugness.

On a side note, seems like policy change after the Sgs2 launch?

Now that they are marketing you can use worldwide with any GSM service what about warranty did they change it as well ??.

Apple sure will be raking in even more money now that they have opened the doors officially for unlocked iphones in US.

Soon we will hear the news for the first unlock since last November 2010 for iPhone 4 as factory unlocked are available now in USA

I am pretty surprised Apple seemed to have announced this silently. I happened to stumble upon this news at iClarified thanks to simforgotten's query. :P

You don't follows blogs .I was expecting this to come Wednesday and the pricing was already leaked :P
It is still a bad news for US customers as they will be still stuck with ATT to use 3G service .It is certainly a good news for us :)

but bad news for airtel and aircel as people try to get from usa now instead of buying from airtel or aircel.

Makes almost no difference. The monthly plan is $40 + $15 minimum whether you are in contract or not. (I asked AT&T. They said even if I let my contract expire, my monthly charge won't reduce) So people have no incentive to buy an unlocked phone. The few people who do use prepaid are people who do not use the phone too much or who cannot afford $65 per month. Those customers would not be willing to pay $650 upfront.

we still can't buy it the Aramex way cos Apple Store doesn't permits payments thru Intl' CC's or PayPal. Or is there a workout ?

One can always get it shipped through aramex as in tell some friend etc in US to buy and send to aramex. But the problem will be when Iphone lands in India at customs. They will assess the value at Indian price so a 32GB may be valued at 41k types and accordingly one has to pay duty but that should not be much issue as it would finally make a difference of like 100-200 if valued at US price or India price.

And there is another $57.6 as Tax!

^ Yes, but if the company has a business presence in that state, it is required to charge sales tax. The percentage of tax of course varies depending on the state.

If you are buying from a company having presence only in New York and you get it shipped to another state, then you need not pay sales tax but in the case of Apple it doesn't matter where you are as they have a business presence in every state.
