Well below target
LAST WEEK, Microsoft admitted that it was going to fall short of its sales targets for the Xbox 360, now new figures show how far it has to before it meets them.
According to analyst group NDP, Vole has managed to sell only 600,000 of its new Xbox 360 video game consoles in the US since its November, launch.
Microsoft wants to sell 4.5 million to 5.5 million Xbox 360 consoles during the current business year, which ends June.
However over Christmas, during the biggest sales period, Microsoft was unable to get enough of the consoles to the shops in time.
The figures show even more doom and gloom than those presented by bean counters Goldman Sachs last week.
Sony, the world's biggest video game console maker, and Nintendo are preparing to ship their next-generation machines in 2006.
The NPD Group measures nearly two-thirds of retail sales in the United States and makes projections for the remainder of the year.
