I recently bought NZXT Tempest 410 case for my existing hardware, my motherboard is Gigabyte GA 880 GM-USB3.
My case has 1 front USB 3.0 connection which needs a 20pin connector, problem is that there is no 20pin socket for USB3.0 on my board, but it has 2 USB3.0 ports on the rear! so what could be done so that I could use my front USB 3.0 which would be more accessible for me.

Is there a way I could use the rear ports as an input for 20 pin connector via some kind of adapter?

Hailstone that extension cable wouldnt really help him coz it doesn't have female connectors... plus the motherboard which op has doesn't have internal usb3 headers so that cable is of no use for op

You are wrong... The female connector is on the front panel connector itself...

NZXT Tempest 410 Case Review

The cable I posted would convert rear USB 3.0 ports to front USB 3.0 ports since it has the 20 pin header at the other end which connects to the Front 20 pin plug ( which essentially is a pinless plug). Remember in a header pins are on the mobo where the front USB 3.0 plug connects but here the mobo lacks it therefore the rear ports are converted into a 20 pin header to connect front port...

Also if the cable is short (for bigger cases) then an extension cable could be used....

Instead of going through all that hassles and making his cabby a mess... he should buy a usb3 male to female extension cable and be done with it... Plus buying a usb3 male to female extension cable would be cheap and a very cost effective affair

Was in same situation as you, bought this USB 3.0 two internal 2 Ports 20pin header PCI-E express card adapter w/ NEC Chip for my Corsair 300R. Had to pay something around 900 for it.

This is a much better solution since it would allow to connect front ports to a separate NEC controller & free up the rear ports. It would also not saturate the PCI-e x1 rev 2.0 bandwidth since Tempest has only one front USB 3.0 port..

Hades. I was not concerned about cost since it was not mentioned by OP.

^.. the card would be in the middle of the cabby in the sole PCI-e x1 slot & there would be no trouble connecting the existing cable which is sufficiently long.

Also If OP doesn't want the card then he can just remove the rear PCI slot cover (1st) to pass the converter cable from there.....

Thanks people for you suggestion, I think I would just use a USB 3 extension cable, all other options would just ruin the cable management..
