any such casing available in nehru place?

if not, please recommend one with e-sata and usb 2.0 only?

PS: and what is the average write speed to WD green drives if connected through E-sata and USB 3.0?
in USB 2.0, i get only 17MB/s write speed.

^thanks

i did some research and found "Transcend StoreJet 35 Ultra" to have e-sata and USB 2.0
is it good? any idea about pricing?
and are there more branded casings available at nehru place?

Can anyone using "Transcend StoreJet 35 Ultra" Casing confirm if this casing supports 3TB drive or not?

I have seen people claiming support for 1.5TB and 2TB but not a single comment for 3TB,someone who has this casing and drive please confirm?
or anyone using any 3TB drive can let me know how they connect their disk? local casing?transcend casing?Dock?Direct sata?

@chetansha : thanks but i think i would go for transcend casing this time.http://techenclave.com/community/members/chetansha.12481/

Using 3TB on ext drive will be little tricky due to GPT. So research properly or get a 3 TB ext drive to play it safe

^ i know,thats what got me worried...

i should start a new thread for better visibility :)
sorry mods too many question threads from me :(

^ i try to avoid external drives,i prefer internal for some reasons,i already have 3 internal drives and 2 local USB casing...i just plug them in and out into the casing and do the data backup but now my data need is for a 3TB drive,so i was hoping it would be simple like evertime.buy an internal 3TB and hook it inside the casing and tadaaaa enjoy 3TB but this MBR and GPT made things complicated.

i was googling and saw a number of people having problems with 3TB drives, even with external ones....and could see only 746GB out of 3TB,for some reason is USB enclosure, for some it is motherboard issue, for some something else... etc etcccccc...

now i am not sure if even i buy a 3TB external then it will work sureshot and if i would be able to use full 3TB space of it...

That's more reason for you to buy a ext 3tb drive. Its safer that buying an int 3tb drive and popping it in an ext casing .

FYI I have used a wd 3tb drive on the casing which I mentioned earlier. I did not have any issues. Then I put the wd 3 tb drive into a WD nas casing and using it as my primary nas device now.

this encryption thing got be worried about externals...i would like to have the option to use my drive internally by connecting it to MOBO sata port in future...but according to this thread you cant take out the drive from casing...

AND your 3TB worked just fine in the casing?you were able to see and use full 3TB space inside the casing? you did multiple partitions or single 3TB partition? and which casing did you use? connexted using USB 2.0 ,USB 3.0 or E-sata??

Yep 3tb drive worked fine, I used it as a single partition and it showed me 2.72 gb on the USB , and it showed 2.72 too when I connected to my mobo.
I used USB 2.0

^ ok

so i did some research on external drives and to make 3TB drives work ,WD's 3TB My Books are configured with 4KB LBAs. When you remove the drive from its enclosure and install it inside a PC, you expose the drive's 512e LBAs. This means that sector 0 is still in the same place but every other sector is out by a factor of 8.and this shift makes data unreadable...so if external drive enclosure is using such thing then you cant use it internally.

i think i will try to get hold of a 3TB and test it with my current casing and if it does work fine then i will get internal else external is the only option.

thanks a lot chetansha for your time.

PS:still i would like to know if "Transcend StoreJet 35 Ultra" Casing supports 3TB drive or not?
