its me agian!
here are some details of my pc
Code:

Chipset: Intel Whitney 82810 rev 3
Superio: NSC 363 rev 12 found at port 2Eh
OS: WinXP SP2
CPU: CELERON(TM) 500 Mhz MAX: 1500 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 512K
Memory Installed: 128 MB

ok now the problem
i decided to take a 1gb pen drive
so i needed a usb port to make use of pendrive, but dont have a onboard usb port as its 810 mobo. so going through the manual i came to know that its and optional feature and i would need a buy a usb header to use usb ports.
so i brought the usb header for 65Rs/- and connected it to the motherboard.
and also made changes in bios for usb option to "enable".
then to test the usb ports i borrowed an usb webcam from a friend and connected it but windows xp dosent detect the webcam. i also installed the drivers that came with the webcam.
then i again went to my friends place and checked the webcam windows dected it when connected.

so do i need any additional drivers or software to enable my usb ports.

here are the pin details and the colour code for usb port of my motherboard:

Code:
pin#1
+5V Ground ------black
USBP0- USBP1+ -----green
USBP0+ USBP1- -----white
Ground +5V----red

Check in the "device manager" if USB controller is detected or not.
If it is detected, Reinstall the drivers from the driver CD or search from internet.
If it is not detected, something is wrong with u'r motherboard then.

Look in device manager. Do you see something called USB controllers?

I think u may have to install the mobo drivers again.

in "device manager" i can see something like

>>universal serial bus controllers>>|
|__>>Intel(R)82801AA USB universal host controller<<
|__>>USB Root Hub

but still when i connect the the USB Webcam or any other usb device(samsumg handy cam) windows does not detect anything.
and my original MOBO cd contains (USB_supplement) for win95 only.

even the MOBO site states the same.
Code:
http://www.pcpartner.com/support/utility/81x_drv.htm#81X

so i guess that windows xp sp 2 already has built in drivers for my usb.but then why this problem???

Eazy:
Check out the first INF driver on this page - it may be what you need...

easy buddy the link which u provided and the "inf update utility" is for which board(chipset)???

cause this link for 810 chipset and the inf update is older than what u have posted.
Code:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=178&OSFullName=Windows%2A+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21

anyways i will try both of them
and give u all the feedback

I followed a link from Intel 810 chipset to the link I posted - now I opened the file and checked list of supported MoBo's and the 810 was not in the list - maybe it will still work ....

I think it is necessary to install the Intel INF drivers for full support for the features of the board. These drivers should be installed first thing after the OS before any other hardware drivers are installed... but .... there is a way to do it if the INF drivers are being installed on a fully loaded system... read the first post in this thread excellent info...

I think there is a mis-match of pins between your motherboard and USB header. I had this problem with my case's front panel USB pins not matching with my mobo's usb headers.

Try checking the instructions that came with the header. You can also try to take the pins out and re-insert them again just to make sure that they are fitting and alligning correctly.

BTW, I have an old computer with a PCI to USB card. Hot plugging does not work there. I need to connect the USB device before turning the computer on to make the damn thing work. It is also an 810 board.

Can it be a USB1.1 USB 2 problem. May be not, I think usb 2 is backward compatible.

Hey Count !!!

I think you are right I just looked again and it struck me that Deathbearer was using a USB cable not supplied by the the maker of the mother board - that could most likely mean that the pin layouts are different.
