I am considering an UL connection from MTNL.
These days MTNL does not charge rent for CPE on UL connections. So my choices for an ASDL router stand at:
a> MTNL's wired router [Sterlite SAM300] for 300 bucks and no rent (currently) [hyeah:]
b> MTNL's wireless router [Unknown brand] for 600 bucks and no rent currently
c> Half decent Linksys/Dlink/your brand here router. for "x" amount of money.
A or B seem to be logical winners but for MTNL's ad-hoc policy making. If they decide to charge rent for CPE arbitrarily, I would have a bad bargain on my hands.
So the question is should take a chance on MTNL and go for one of their routers or buy my own?
Also,
I currently do not have any use for a wireless modem, but perhaps in the near future, I may want one.
So, is there any harm in getting a wireless modem now, and using it as a Wired modem via one of the 4 lan ports it comes with? After all the cost difference is only 300 bucks.
