I want to buy a cheap laptop. I am getting a Dell Vostro V13 ( http://www.dell.com/in/business/p/vostro-v13/pd ) with this config for 14k

Core 2 Duo SU7300 ( http://ark.intel.com/products/42791/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-SU7300-3M-Cache-1_30-GHz-800-MHz-FSB )
13.3" Screen
4GB RAM
320GB HDD
Warranty: Upto Jan 2014

I don't need a very powerful laptop. It'll be used mostly from browsing the internet and some light programming. I don't use powerful IDEs like Netbeans.

Now, is this better than buying a netbook in the 15k to 20k range?
These laptops have features

Atom or Celeron Processor
About 10.1" screen
2GB RAM
320GB HDD
Warranty: 1 Year.

The Celerons in this price range have processors like
1. Celeron 847 ( http://ark.intel.com/products/56056/ )
2. Celeron 1007U ( http://ark.intel.com/products/72061/ )

Which of these would be more powerful?
Which one appears to be a better deal?

Yup. 14k is the final price. I'm tempted to purchase this since the warranty is there till Jan 2014. I know it's just a 3 months but it is enough time to put the laptop through all tests and verify that everything is in order.
There is a Thinkpad R60 available for 9.5k . The seller is not sure about the specs. I'll get to check out the laptop today evening. Will decide then. For the Thinkpad R60, the warranty is just 1 week.

Try to bargain for Dell machine is possible. I have very little idea about R60. A year ago I was also in a search of similar laptop. Lightweight, use for browsing and MS Office stuff. I ended up purchasing a used MacBook Air 13 - 2009 model. At that time I too had tried to find V13 but I could not. Also for 15-16K you will get a first gen Core i3 laptop, so 14K is more IMO.

I would suggest to skip the C2D as its pretty old. Instead look for deals on new laptops, you should get PDC laptops for about 17K IMO. A i3 would be best.
