Just got a new router and was hoping that it would be able to reach a particular spot where my old router would not. Unfortunately, it is still scratchy at my fav location. Funny thing is this is only on my Macbook, and never had this issue with my Dell. I guess it's the metal body that causes an issue.

Is there any way that I can connect my old router [Cheap Belkin b/g], to my new router [Asus b/g/n], either wired or wirelessly?

Hoping that I could then maybe drill a hole in a wall and place the second router closer to the spot where the network is scratchy.

Do you think this will work? Anyone done this?

If you are ready to invest in a new router/ repeater then get the Asus RT N-10. It has repeater mode and works like charm. I had similar issue like yours and was in a fix for long time but Asus did the job for me.

Asus also has access point mode where u can use cable to connect to the existing router. The RT N-10 is available for 2750/- ( Local store price ,Bangalore )

Just lifted the router out of the desktop clutter and I transfered a 1gb file 20ft across 2 walls in 2min30sec, and retested with the old router at same location and got 12min30sec. Pretty good value for money upgrade I think.

Also the small relocation has improved RSSI at my scratchy connection area. Might not need a repeater.

You could have tried using connectify on your windows7 (im sure there is an equivalent for mac) for making your PC behave as a repeater OR hotspot for the other machine.
