Its only few days since Microsoft announced its new search engine Bing and it is surrounded by controversies. Though Microsoft took care of user friendliness while designing the Bing, it led to some loop holes in filtering adult content which is not appropriate for children across the world.

Larry Magid from CNET reported that just after few clicks on the Bing Search Engine, anyone will have access to loads of adult content. Bing's video search tool has a preview mode that lets you view and listen to part of a video simply by hovering over it with your mouse. So when you search for such terms, it does warn you for the sexual explicit content but once you turn it off, simply putting your mouse over the thumbnail will play the actual video.

But If you are in India and trying to hunt for some adult content using Bing, you will be out of luck. Web searches using the terms "sex" or "sexual" from India on Microsoft's new search engine Bing receive a message that the search may return sexually explicit content and advises users to change search terms.

Normally you should be able to change your search preferences to enable the adult filter off but for Bing India, you won't find that preference option. So no more sexual content for you "Indians".. I wonder why though? Why Bing India is deciding what can Indians see and what not ?

Solution? On the right top corner, change the country from India to United States or visit Bing USA directly

Bing Lands into Worlds Top 20 Websites

How much time does it take to launch a new service and bring it in to the coveted "worlds most visited" sites list? Not much if the service happens to be a Search Engine, and more importantly, if the search engine is from Microsoft. Well, it's not the most visited website as yet. However, breaking into the top 20 was cakewalk for Bing, which managed the feat in just about two months from the launch date.

So, ladies and gentlemen, it's now official. Microsoft's Bing, launched sometime in June, has now made its quiet entry into Alexa's top 20 list. It is still behind the likes of Facebook and Twitter. Strangely, Alexa's "top 20" page still lists Bing's erstwhile Avatar, Windows Live Search at the number five spot. Windows Live is dead for all practical purposes as going to live.com redirects to Bing now.

While it may have inched itself into the top 20 list, it is still way behind Google, which continues to dominate the number one position. In second place is Yahoo followed by another Google property, YouTube. Almost two months since the launch of Bing, it sure is a good sign for Microsoft about Bing's growth. However, it still has a long way to go before it can ruffle the feathers of folks over at Google in the Search Engine wars. As for Bing, its growth, in sheer numbers has been great; however, the overall usage pales in comparison to Google.

Bing is good but why Google still reins supreme :P
Bing is a decent effort from Microsoft and it is good that for once web users have a viable choice; but you don't surpass something like Google by just being able to come close to it. There are some concerns regarding Google's domination and its cavernous hunger for data, but unless someone somewhere thinks differently and comes out with a few radical ideas the way two Stanford nerds did in 1998, Google's spider will continue to crawl web unchallenged.

i agree.....but i m not that +ive about bing...but i think some other stuff by 3rd parties will come up.....they will definitely dent google...but sure it will take long really long time to push Google to 50% level also

Isn't there a way to go to the main bing page rather than it itself detecting my location though IP ?

Like google.com we do and land in google.co.in but still it is possible to explicitly goto google.com

Funny, i use the en-gb language firefox ( not en-us). It shows me the option to either search the web or UK. I open Bing on IE and it shows the option to either search the web or only India :P

Apologies for bumping an old thread.

I don't know if anyone has reported this before but I found a glitch in bing yesterday.

To get access to filter options in images or search with blocked keywords just change the language in bing's search options. That is it.

Enjoy!!! :evilgrin39:
