Guys being an engineering student we have got lots of seminar to give. So google is our god . And all of you will agree with me. .
Here are some tips to mine your information out of google,
1. Dont use the search query larger than 10 words.
2. If the given search query doesnt yield appropriate results then try breaking the query into multiple subqueries like
e.g. comparison between Flat and Tall organisations is needed.
then trying "Flat vs Tall organisations" doesnt yield much of RELEVANT results.
So try putting "Flat organisations" and "Tall organisations" in separate google queries.
3. Try altering the spellings.
Here in above query , changing "organisations" ( a spelling mistake but google accepts it , so it might go unnoticed) to "Organizations" yielded more and highly RELEVANT searches.
4. Try altering the words.
Suppose u need some information on "XXX systems" and u put in the query as "XXX systems" but it doesnt give u much information. Then u can simply try putting in "XXX machines" which might give u more results.
(Hope I am not boring u guys)
5. Try to visit as many as search Pages as u can. U will never know which search result might lead u to appropriate destination.
6. ( I know it's foolish to add this one but still i wanted to make it as complete as possible ) Sometimes using Advanced Options may prove useful. Especially the Search-bar that I liked most was "Find Results with the exact phrase ". Here u should put the most relevant word to the given query , i.e. if Creative Speakers is the query then putting Creative in this Searchbox will yield all the speakers related searched having Creative in it.
7. Try shortforms / longforms alternatively.
e.g. Using "FMS" instead of "Flexible Manufacturing Systems" was useless for me. ( Common sense though )
8. Sometimes using www.google.co.in may not show u some of the search results. So you can try using www.google.co.uk or http://www.google.com/intl/en/ (Google International website) instead.
I would recommned using Google International.
