Storage Solutions using usb hdd as semi-permanent hdd

i've just bought a 500gb usb seagate freeagent go portable hd. my desktops's internal hard drive is quite full now but the 500gb should meet my needs for most things.
i only need some space to keep seeding my downloaded torrent media files. for now they're on the dsktop hd. can i transfer them to my portable hd and keep the portable hd permannelt connected via usb so i can seed via it?
are there any advantages/disadvantages to doing this?
will the usb hd consume more power then an internal sata hdd? are internal hd's more robust compared to internals? will the constant read/write affect the external hd in any way?

I'd suggest seeding from the internal drive only.

Constant read/write definitely affects the disk.

Better to protect the external drive as it costs twice the internal one.

The power saving would be negligible.

Thr is no difference between internal n external hdd ( external hdd has a hdd inside an enlosure) . It's just that external hdd is more conveneint n expensive so u tend to save it.

Theoretically u'll get no harm if u use it permananetly on usb ( i'm using my laptop hdd in my desktop for last 1 month), but in the long run it's better to hv internl hdd...

Have been using an 80GB USB connected HDD for my utorrent download and upload from quite some time now....

Havent faced any issues as such... works absolutly fine... :)

oh that's cool then i can use my portable hd. so other than cost there's no difference as such (in terms of durability etc)?

just fmi is there any diff. in power consumption b/w a usb hd and an internal sata hdd?
