I will be getting a new sim card next month and most probably I will be taking a Vodafone connection of Mumbai circle and will be using the connection in Mumbai as well as Pune on an iPhone 4S. I will need to activate 3G on this. I want to know whether sending ACT 3G will activate 3G and make it usable on the iPhone ?
I read on ibf forum that by default 3G is usable using the "iPhone" APN and one cannot even change it to www as it is hidden ? Is it true ?
The only way around this is either use the unlockit.co.nz or use the iPhone configuration utility and change the APN.
But I also read that if i send ACT IPHONE then it will activate the iPhone 3G and I would be able to use it fine. But it will activate the 3p/10kb (or whatever it is) plan and not the subscribed plan (like 1gb for 250 rupees etc)
I am confused about all this. Anyone who is using Vodafone 3G on iPhone, please suggest how to go about. I will try to buy the official MicroSIM from Vodafone.

Just SMS ACT MI250 to activate the 1gb plan

Just SMS ACT MI250 to activate the 1gb plan

Just an update. I did as mentioned above, 3G working fine. I used the unlockit.co.nz to change the APN to www (from iPhone) and now hotspot too works absolutely fine.
Tried facetime over 3G also (have 3G unrestrictor installed in both iPhones) and it works absolutely fine.

what is 3G unrestrictor? any links to this software? thanks!

Facetime for the pre-iOS 6 OS was restricted to only work on wifi. But there is a cydia tweak (not an appstore app) called 3G Unrestictor which enables such apps to work on 3G/EDGE/Cellular data as well. Other things like photo stream can also be made to work on 3G network which would normally only work on wifi.

Suggest using maharashtra sim.

What ?? Did not get you. :S

vodafone maharashtra gives more data for same package.
so best deal and better value than mumbai vodafone.
